Nights In White/Black Satin

October 22nd, 2009 at 9:32 pm . by Payal

Was there a satin sheets sale somewhere because it almost seems like Ms. Nair bought a few and got em sown into kurta-churidaars. Jokes apart, the white one wasn’t so bad but wearing the same satin stuff all over again in black was a bit much for us.

You like either or neither?

Wow uggh no. Satin IMO works on very few people and only when designed in a certain way. Neither works for me—at all.

  2. Madden Girl says:

She looks stunning in both. She is no fashionista, give her a break.

  3. PennyLane says:

Sometimes, women make up for bad clothes with incredible talent. Other times, they make up for no talent with bad clothes.
E.g., when will Malaika stop dressing like she is a toddler? Does she buy clothes from Osh-Kosh and get them tailored to her size?

  4. Tina says:

BUT LOOK AT THE LOUBOUTINS!! MS NAIR IS ROCKIN THEM…..

  5. Dits says:

omg! cant decide which is worse !!!!

  6. Shuchi says:

Ugh they’re both eyesores. Makes me sad as I really like the lady wearing them.

  7. Kiwi says:

The white top is lovely. She should have worn it with Jeans, pants, skirt etc. The black look does not work for me- the sleeves don’t work. She’s made an effort. If u see her on TV, her heavy eye make up looks frightening

While I don’t lke the outfits, especially the black one, I have to give her credit for being snapped with unwrinkled satin! I wonder what her secret is?

  11. KS says:

P&P, She wore the white at premire not at screening!

I saw her in white! It didnt look bad in person at all.On the contrary she looked very nice.

But personally Satin is big no no.

  12. N says:

  13. Priyanka Garg says:

    Ive got a similar sleepwear…

  14. Anita says:

i seriously don’t understand how someone living in India with access to so much material, tailors, embroidery walas and boutiques and designers – would pick stuff like this to wear.. A smart churidar would make this lady look so elegant.. and if you want to wear western, why not regular pants?? LOL

  15. bella desse says:

Do I like the outfits? No, but!
Mira Nair is a successful, talented woman and one of the few powerful international woman directors NOT some random socialite with no other claim to fame except a wardrobe full of birkins.
Infact, she does not ever claim to be fashionable or a fashion icon.

She makes fabulous movies and earns Indian cinema worldwide recognition I say, she’s earnt the right to dress however the heck she wants.

To me style is about being interesting, original, aritistic and creative not just superficial, asthethically pleasing outfits.
So I’d say, of all the women on this site, she’s one of the most stylish even if she isn’t fashionable.

    • maya says:

      couldn’t agree more.

    • Carol says:

Do any of the people shown on this site claim to be fashionable or a fashion icon? Well except for some self proclaimed ones who will remain nameless.

I think people in general dress however the heck they want and that’s fine except for the ones who try to be fashionable instead of comfortable and fail big time.

My only comment is she should stay away from the satin.

  16. mj15 says:

mira nair cud get away with blue murder int he fashion arena, as far as i am concerned. i echo all the comments about her many accomplishments and the acclaim she has brought on the country. i do think the white kurta/ kurti is interesting.

  17. mj15 says:

…and BTW, ahe lives in new york most of the year and not in India as someone commented earlier on.

  18. Arati says:

I like her in white, black nah….

  19. shonali says:

she is such a fiercely creative and intelligent woman. hope she changes her fashion sense. she’s never been as bad as this before. she usually wears nice kurtas.
