Wendell Rodricks: 1960- 2020
Indian fashion lost one of its biggest champions with passing of Wendell Rodricks. The Padma Shri awardee was a designer who pioneered Resort-Wear in India and advocated sustainability decades before it became cause du jour. Author, activist and designer, his loss is irreplaceable and he will be sorely missed.

Was really sad and shocked when I read the news this morning. His dream Moda Goa museum was almost nearing completion, but he never got to see it realised. His work reviving the kunbi saree of Goa and his fight to save his state’s natural heritage will always be inspirational. RIP.
His Whites are unforgettable…. Besides being a wonderful designer, he was a great human as well, a favorite among the students whose life he touched, WR, you will be sorely missed
Great personality. Awesome person.excellent designer. Did lot of good work and was helpful to the needy who called on him. He will be greatly missed. RIP
I remember being in awe of Indian fashion in the 90s – and Wendell Rodericks was so central to it all. Such beautiful, ethereal creations.
will always be grateful to him for introducing minimalism into the Indian fashion scene. for the Kunbi saree. for his unfailing graciousness on social media. for upholding LGBTQ rights and fighting for the environment. for packing in so much into a cruelly shortened life. he had so much to give still tho.
He left too early. He will be sorely missed but his legacy will live on.
I once happened to sit next to him on a flight from Goa to Bombay . I didn’t know how he was . We started a conversation and it was so normal and he was so down to earth ( he too didn’t know much about the company I worked for and we laughed over it ) . It was only after I got off the plane and happened to read the day ‘s newspaper ..where he was featured that I realised who he was . Yes , he didn’t put on any airs or make a big deal about who he was through the 40 odd minutes that we talked .
Rest In Peace , Wendell
