  1. Love her simple mehendi & simple silk saree…hope to see a more glamorous avataar at the party which I assume will follow?
But why is she covering up so much? 😉

  2. For the first time ever, I am forgetting to look at Vidya’s beautiful face, because all my eyes are drawn to are the fabulous necklaces she is wearing. OMG! I cant get enough of looking at them!

    • The banarasi saree was probably gifted by her inlaws. Does’nt one get married in saree gifted by the inlaws. She looks nice. Most unlike the recent christmas tree bride.

    • I actually love the sari-it’s traditional while still not over=ornate. I find some Kanjevarams can be too ornate for my taste. I also love the drape-it’s very regular; reminds me of how Jaya Bachchan draped her saris in her Hrishikesh M. films when she was playing a regular woman….

      • @sev: Agreed but this stiff silk material looks strange when pulled across the shoulders that way. Methinks it has to do with some temple traditions to cover both shoulders .. or maybe she had used the pallu to cover her head during the ceremony.

In fact the sari is not bad, it seems to not photograph so well in the daytime perhaps.

  3. Best wishes to the couple! Can’t help saying this – the body language is so tense…wedding jitters maybe? It happened to catch my attention in other pics too…just something off from the usual confidence Vidya emanates.

  4. She looks so pretty. I like her simplicity. Those jewels are gorgeous. Surprsingly bridegroom looks good, beause he always appears sloppy. This said I am about to raid my mom’s closet.

  5. congrats to the couple. i’m not going to say i’m over the moon at her wedding look. I think she looks better at her premieres and other events. I get that at weddings you have to take on what the family wants you to do. too bad they didn’t want glamour or a tidy appearance. sorry to be negative here, gotta tell it like i see it.

  6. She doesn’t look like a typical bride. But then weddings are very personal affairs. And if they’ve chosen to go simple, nothing wrong with that. Even kareena wore a plain salwaar kameez for her wedding.

  7. I am a South Indian and I adore her for wearing the traditional mehendi the way it’s usually done in the South. Most brides these days adopt the much more glamorous Punjabi one…yes, sadly I did that too at my own wedding. Simple no frills wedding, traditional attire. I was expecting something on the lines of the Bachchan 70th birthday celebrations. They are adorable. Well done!

    • I agree. Very often the punjabi style elaborate mehendi is just lost on the darker south indian skin tone. Instead what Vidya had is a more traditional Marudani. I love it too.
Also, i have got to admit that i love the fact that she dressed up as a bride only as she can. Again breaking from Bollywood Bridal traditions.

    • Why do South Indian’s have something negative to say about ‘Punjabi’ preferences. I never heard a Punjabi say that south indian’s are too simple. let ppl dress as they please.

      • It was only mentioned that “Punjabi style is glamorous”. Nothing negative about it. As RR wrote, the typical South indian mehendi is this style, where depending on the place where we come from, your uncle’s wife or mom’s younger sister will do the mehendi after lighting a traditional lamp, which basically kickstarts the festivities. Those days are gone and the mehendi function has moved to the saloons.
Love her look. But cant figure out as to why she draped herself, as it unlike South Indian traditions. Wedding was according to the South Indian Style.

        • I agree. I’m from Kumaon (Nainital region) and was so disappointed when my cousins and nephews and nieces got married according to rituals that were a far cry from the usual Kumaoni ceremonies even when both the bride and groom were from Kumaon. They’d taken a leaf out of KJos movies instead of following the usual traditions, and it is disappointing to me because I love the uniqueness of the traditions of that region. I’m not against Punjabi customs, but I don’t like this trend of even non-punjabis following them simply to have a wedding like they see on Bollywood movies. I mean in Kumaon there is no such ritual as Karwa Chauth, but now, thanks to the ubiquity of KJos movies and Bollywood, nearly every married Kumaoni woman is following this ritual. This sort of homogenization of traditions ruins their uniqueness.

      • I cant say about how punjabis feel about south indian clothes. But i feel in the south, people copy things blindly (like too much of MM style clothes, mehendi, even ceremonies like sangeet which do not exist down south). Problem is not the copying bit but the copying blindly bit and losing out their own beautiful traditions as a result.
Nothing wrong with Punjabi preferences. Afterall imitation is a form of flattery.

      • LOL. Nothing “negative” was ever said about Punjabi style. Go read the comments again, it says that Punjabi mehendi is elaborate and glamorous and most people prefer that over the South Indian form…see, no negatives, only positives!!

          • I think RR said “sadly” since she regrets having passed up on her own customs and choosing a popular trend instead. That’s hardly a reflection on either culture, just her own feelings about a choice she made. Disclaimer: don’t know RR or anyone else, just saying it like I read it. 🙂

  8. Congratulations on your warm, low key yet elegant wedding. I get her style. The deliberate south indian mehendi instead of the elaborate ones is a clue. I love the colour of the sari – such a warm yet gentle red. Very South Indian statement – what you see is what you get and I am not out to impress anyone and the smart ones will be impressed by this attitude. The essence of traditional India.

  9. Love this ! so very simple and yet lovely . You don’t have to dress over the top just because it is your wedding and you are a star. Most South Indian Kachivarams now days- especially the ones brides wear, are way too garish for my taste . This sari is very classy and lovely . totally in my league .

She looks simple and fresh . love

    Congrats to the couple

  10. Well done! Props to them for being classic, elegant, and not OTT. She’s always been so real and down-to-earth, it’s a delight to see that stardom hasn’t changed that. Blessings and heartiest congratulations to the couple!

  12. I’m sorry but THIS is how she dressed for her own wedding?!?! How untidy does her pallu look? Nothing wrong with being simple, but this looks so messy.

  13. Love the whole red benarasi Saree look… thank god she is indicating to the whole world that its not about glamourous designer stuff always… and even the neck pieces are beautiful … but why draping a saree like that is she trying to hide something?
About siddharth Roy Kapurs kurta looks like a Sabyasachi.. but why such ill fitting one? the shoulder is drooping? the sleeves are way too long?
I wonder why a marriage in such haste where fitting cant be taken care off!! neverthe less good to see ppl not going OTT on their weddiing outfits…

  14. never seen her look less than lovely before.so sad that it’s on her wedding day. the hair is a mess and her smile looks forced. what a pity. and one gaudy necklace would have sufficed.
