Vikram Phadnis: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

When the only noteworthy thing about a showing is the models’ head-gear and when that too looked grossly mis-styled/mis-placed with the collection in question, it can’t bear good tidings for the designer. As trippy as the mogra was, the showing was anything but.

Unimaginative designs, uninspired collection. And at various times, totally cringe-inducing.

  1. the headgear idea is clearly an inspiration from project runway season 6 winner’s runway collection. she had a black head gear for all the girls walking her clothes on the runway, and thats the first thing that came to my mind when i saw this. the collection itself is quite ok. i dont find it ‘cringe-inducing’ at all.. thats a little harsh.

    • That’s exactly what I was going to write. The head gear is “inspired” from Irina Shabayeva’s project runway collection.
I like Irina’s head gear so much better than this. These outfits are just blah – nothing spectacular.

  3. Completely unrelated, but I just wanted to get your attention, hence the comment here..
Do you guys remember how you got us all up in arms with you on the Zing TV controversy? Well, what happened with that? have you heard back from them? Was some action taken? I’d love to hear what happened, especially since I was among many of your other supporters who emailed zing tv in support of you guys..
    Thanks

    • We got an apology from the head but after that the man went AWOL. Since then we’ve gotten busy and don’t have that much resources either to pursue it further. Thanks a lot for your support. It meant ( and still does mean) the world to us.

      • P&P, tell us more about your trip to India! Have y’all been before? Maybe its a topic for another ‘culture’ type blog. I’m wondering how you found the overall organization and setup of the shows, culture & nature of the people involved, hosting, organizing, and really, do you find it a bit awkward understanding and fitting in with Indian ppl from India in the fashion realm?

I am from India and lived here all my life. Moved to the U.S a couple of years ago and even then, I split my time between India and the States… and, all the other travel I do in between. What can I say, I seem to live out of a suitcase! 😉

So yeah… the question seems a little redundant in my context! Lol.

          🙂

  4. Ok prepared for the brickbats but when the page first loaded and I first saw the headgear I was scared/disgusted like it was something growing on someone’s head. Sorry a total thumbs down me for this whole spread simply because of that disgust-inducing head piece.

  5. Wow you sat through that! Or were made to sit through it? Lets start our own fashion line you guys, we can do sooooo much better, just learning from other peoples’ mistake. It seems so easy peasy looking at some of these designers’ shows. That white thing on her hear, it looks like fluffed rice. She’s growing grains on her head as part of the Green Earth movement. lol

  7. It would be a total shock for me if any of these Bollywood stylists turned designers [ Vikram Phadnis, MM, Rocky S. and the likes] are able to present a decent collection some day..
Till then I’m pretty sure we’ll keep getting mediocre stuff from them!!
Guys,THERE IS a difference between a StyLIST and a DESIGNER!!

  8. Not happening at all. The head gear and the clothes don’t go together. It’s like trying to mix funk and blah-ness? Don’t know what direction Vikram Phadnis is going to wards. Can’t slot this collection anywhere. Totally bo-ring.

  10. Looks ridiculous….I suppose this is what happens when designers run out of ideas. They end up copying, and that too badly, someone’s idea.

  11. Girls it’s a nice day and I am squinting hard to decipher anything on the site. Broad hint: you seriously seriously need to revemap this site. You know good design so why not cleaner, brighter, simpler lines here!
