In Sabyasachi. Again.

No surprises here, it’s Vidya Balan in a Sabyasachi outfit again, this time opting for an anarkali over a sari.

I love black and gold, and I absolutely love this simple and elegant anarkali (which we’ve seen on Vidya before) but I sooo wish Ms. Balan hadn’t looked quite so drab in it. Sure, every actress/celebrity needs her downtime and as much as I want to give Vidya props for wearing her clothes with a certain nonchalance, I do wish she’d put a teeny bit more effort in it.

Won’t she just indulge us one of these days?

  1. Drab from head to toe. Don’t feel ANY of it. Downtime doesn’t mean that a minimal effort outfit can’t ever work – but here it so doesn’t.

  2. And pray what is wrong with this look? She looks fresh, glowing, happy and completely comfortable in her own skin. And the black outfit is lovely too…simple, elegant and timeless.

  3. My first glance at this pic made me go OMG what happened to her face? Then I realized she just lost some weight and forgot to conceal her dark circles….
Anyways, black and gold rarely goes wrong but here it sadly does….the outfit looks volumnous and…depressing!

  4. strappy high-heeled sandals or even bronze thong flats, would have added some sparkle. plus some life in her hair and better makeup. I love the outfit, she’s not doing it justice:-(

  5. Love Sabya….It would have been better if she wore the dupatta in other way…

  6. She looks absolutely ill groomed; the unbrushed hair, the dark circles, the crumpled dupatta slung carelessly over her shoulders.

The outfit is horrible too,I particularly hate the incongruous looking tassles at the end of the dupatta. Plus its just general drab and dull and volimunous and depressing

  7. I love the jhumka’s! They are just lost though 🙁 Wish she had worn to look better. But balck is too over-whelming in summer! As it is the heat is a killer.

  9. I think she dresses like a lot of normal girls in India too (albeit without the wardrobe of Sabyasachi numbers!) minimal or no makeup, not much effort made with the hair and a lack of accessories. Not saying theres anything wrong with that, its either a look you love or hate! . I love Vidya, I think shes a natural beauty but I expect a little more oomph from a movie star somehow.

  10. She looks like she just cleaned the entire house, and is all set to go get dressed for the housewarming party!

Vidya dear – casual doesn’t mean messy. Please fix that mess no your head NOW.

  11. argh! the hair, dupatta, all a mess!

Such a beautiful outfit ruined..and whats with the shoes?

She is a starlet…down days are okay when shes not working, but whilst working/promoting/posing for pics – look the part already!

  12. Sometimes I wonder (judging by the second comment) if Ms Balan herself writes some of the comments on this blog under a pseudonym? Seriously, how can anyone like this outfit but for the lady herself (although, if I wore this monstrosity, I would be ashamed of myself). What’s with the 2 layered dupatta- looks like a snake shedding its skin!I think HHC is right on point here (albeit in too soft a word)- is it too much to ask of celebs to put in a little extra effort dressing up? As Joan Crawford once said- “Go drive a truck if you cannot dress up for red carpet!”

  13. Sometimes I wonder if people like stuff just because its by a well regarded designer.. and not because its genuinely a good piece. I dont understand whats so fab about this outfit.. an abaya has more structure/shape/form to it than this. Also dont you think every time you see a Sabya outfit there is a sense of deja vu? After all if MM can be accused of doing the same ol blingy sarees then by the same stretch what about sabya’s patch work and anarkalis? I agree, he does a few good designs once in a while but I also think hes a bit overrated.

  14. The duppatta is so badly worn and that’s the main thing thats bring down the outfit…also why wear yet another anarkali..am sure there are other silhouttes that suit her better!

  15. Snake prints..or any animal print is always glamorous but these shoes and that bag totally do not work..how can someone not get the basic things right?

  16. She needs help – a stylist & make-up artist. vidya is naturally beautiful but she does need to take some effort to wear the right clothes (per body type), fix her hair and slap on some make-up. isnt looking good a job-pre req for desi actresses???

  17. this outfit could have been saved if balan had worn the dupatta better and combed her hair. i think the photo flash washed out her face and made her look pale and worn. lastly, if you’re going to wear jhumkas and a gold dupatta, you’d better wear some kajal at least.
