Sari Style

Vidya has been busy promoting Shakuntala Devi and we were quite surprised that she also made an appearance for the paparazzi. I love both the Ayush Kejriwal red sari and the black kanchi korvai one but between the two like the black appearance just a wee bit more.

What about you?

P.S. She is wearing Radhika Agrawal earrings in the red look.

  1. The black saree look is a stunner! I like the vintage vibe of the other saree too, like a lot of the crepe/Chinese silks ladies seemed to have in the 70s and 80s.

  2. Oh! The Kanchi Korvai one…..what a beauty!!! The cotton sarees from across the country, Taants to Kanchis to Puneris to various Andhra cottons named after different weaving clusters/regions to Leheriyas and Bandhnis to Chettinads to Mangalagiris to Kala Kshetras are so stunning, comfortable, and gobsmackingly wearable. No offence to dear silks and rich pattus, but cotton is where my heart is and shall always be…

  3. And kudos to Vidya and of course her stylists, for always bringing something less-talked-about-but-always-fantastic to her saree styling. I haven’t seen any ‘star’ wear a cotton korvai or for that matter cotton sarees to their film promotions/public appearances, except her. She always walks the talk about her saree love.

  4. That’s so nice of her to pose for the paparazzi, they are really struggling. She looks smashing in these sarees. They are relatable stylish looks..

  5. The cotton black saree is such a classic and timeless one. How many Bollywood leading ladies wear traditional weaves? Apart from Vidya, I can think of only Rekha, Hema Malini and the late Sridevi in their Kanjeevarams and maybe Madhuri a couple of times in Pathani. It also shows an appalling lack of knowledge on the stylists and the PR teams who manage these Bollywood actors who don’t seems to know how rich the Indian textile culture is. Hopefully this lockdown has educated these filmy folks a bit, outside of MMs, AJSK, Sabya, etc.

    • Totally agree.. personal style and taste has been ridden over by stylist culture, who after all follow western trends. There’s so much fashion treasure in Indian culture, maybe this blog can dedicate a post to highlight whenever sported by stars/models.

I think Kangana and rarely though, but Kareena wear varied weaves, in saree and suits.

    • I agree! 99% of designer wear looks UGLY IMO. the other 1% is beautiful because its a stolen/stamped regular weaver collection

    • Agree. Wish more stylists tried these handloom weaves instead of designer wear all the time. Vidya looks amazing in the black saree !
