Changing It Up

What is going on?!? First, we see Malaika do sophisticated and now we have Vidya giving us a western look done pretty well! Ok, the look per se may not be out of this world and we’ve seen others do it better but lets not forget this is Ms. Balan we’re talking about.

We’ve got to say, not bad. Not bad at all!

P.S. Don’t tell us this is just an in-character look. If so, we hope she takes some pointers from the stylist. 😛

  1. Vidya, this applies to you:
“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.
SO STAY ORIGINAL AS YOU DO. Looking great!

  2. comme ci comme ca

I can understand VB’s dilemma given I look traditionally Indian, curvy, have long hair, short etc. This kind of look is usually not the best for it unless you are strolling around a mall on Sunday. Short top+jeans is instant dwarfing.

Never wear trousers and select a good frock or tunic is my mantra. Properly cut its the best thing a girl like her can do to look good and contemporary. And it works well whether its a fitted 50s frock style or 60s mod tunic inspired. Surely it can’t be that hard to locate one such!!! Come on does Sabya not make frocks!

BTW Jezebel had a piece on Rituparno’s cross dressing. No post from HHC on what he wears?!

  3. looks good.. a belt would would have made the outfit look more put together and a different hairstyle would have helped too but we r takin about VIDYA BALAN here.LOL this is the first time i have even seen wear jeans and not look a walkin fashion disaster. :]

  4. Umm….sorry, I think this outfit makes her look dwarfish. It’s totally bad below neck. As usual, her pretty face stays pretty although those glasses look too severe. I think she looks gorgeous in Indian clothes.

  5. I am all for a casual look, but wearing ill fitting pants has nothing to do with being casual. I like her kurta, necklace, but the pants are horrible (she would have looked better with black leggings)

  6. Am sorry. I don’t see how this is western done well at all. Ill fitting white shirt with leggings and weird sandals is ok for lounging at home. Lots of curvy figures in the west as well – michelle obama for one ), and they make it work. Vidya needs to work harder on the look.

  7. she actually looks…..alright! Not bad at all. I didn’t think she’d be able to pull off the skinny jeans look but because of the loose shirt she looks o.k. Lets face it Vidyas never going to be cutting edge or super stylish and I def. think shes at her prettiest in Sarees but this looks fine on her.

  9. Yes! I knew there was a nice figure underneath all those sarees. I agree that the proportions are a bit off for her frame – she would look taller and leaner if the shirt hit above the hip. However, I think the pants fit her well, and the overall look is simple, quirky and age-appropriate.

Actually, I’d love to see Vidya wear an amazing, high-waisted pencil skirt. The silhouette would be perfect for her, and probably would be more flattering than pants.
