In Aroka

While at a wedding reception last evening, Vidya was photographed in a sari by Aroka. Wearing her hair down, the actor rounded out her look with gold jewelry from Anmol and a black clutch.

The sari was a miss with its wide border/panel that almost looks tacked on. Also, not sure why Ms. Balan was holding up her clutch like that in every single picture… Besides looking odd, it couldn’t have been very comfortable.

  1. For a woman who says that she loves her body the way it is, she definitely doesn’t project it..why always try to hold a pose and look so awkward. So exhausting looking at the hook she creates with her arm. Poses be damned..she should just be comfortable and free!

  2. I don’t know what’s her problem. She is so clueless about what works and what doesn’t for her. I was always told that the more you wear sarees the more you get comfortable in them that it becomes almost second nature. But after being in the show biz for so long, she still looks as comfortable as a 5 grader wearinga saree for a fancy dress competition.

P.S. I like Vidya as an actor but her saree game has definitely dipped in the past few years.

    • Yeah. For a person who always wears saris, she never makes the saris look appealing or inspiring. To carry a sari gracefully, to know which blouse to wear with it and how to style it, is an art and sense of great dressing.

      • I agree she doesn’t look like she is comfortable here. But I think it’s probably because when she gets photographed like this at events she becomes self conscious. I am sure it happens to many of the stars. I still think she can carry off a saree. But she confuses me with her choice of clothes/aesthetics. Most of the times she chooses not nice looking clothes. Like this saree is so overly designed!

  3. The hand on the hip is a bigger issue than the clutch. Her advisors need to her tell her that hand on the hip pose makes her look wider.
    Otherwise she looks nice here.

  4. Nonononono…the hand tells you she is so uncomfortable. I have supported her for all her so called ‘mishaps’ – shapeless clothes, too much volume etc but this is just lazy. Why doesn’t she pleat the pallu nicely before wearing instead of crushing it like some towel and throwing it around her shoulder? If she is conscious about arm-fat, explaining the hand on the hip, she could drape the pallu nicely over her shoulder.
As PnP point out, bad saree with bad borders and doesn’t photograph well.
No Ms. Balan, you can do so much better.

  5. I’m appalled at all the comments above. How are you guys so sure of her “discomfort”? For all you know, this IS her comfort zone and besides, there is no ONE way to wear a saree. She wears it with grace and poise and these inane comments about her “arm fat”, hand on hip making her look wider; just baffle me.
It’s one thing to have an opinion on her styling and quite another to tear her apart over her pose, the way she’s holding her clutch and most ridiculous of all- her perceived discomfort with the saree.

    • She is wearing the saree, not carrying it well. Anyone can wear a saree but carrying well is different. Not that her contemporaries in Bollywood carry well. We have to see outside of Bollywood, so many women in the country wear it so damn well and so smoothly without the team of 10 people around them to help.

      • I think the point that M is making is that we are being too judgmental and projecting all sorts of discomfort on to her, when she is probably just a woman attending a social gathering. She has never claimed to enjoy the dress up part of cinema, and that is fine. To each their own. Innit?? 🙂

    • Posing the way she is if one is self conscious about their arm is the oldest trick in the book. She really looks uncomfortable, imo. If u feel she is very confident that is ur opinion. No one is tearing anyone apart.
Even kareena kapoor does weird things with her arms to make them appear skinny. If people are a tad more observant, doesn’t mean they r condescending. How about a little less judgement at the people who point out things you might have missed?

  6. I wish the entire saree was the same pattern/fabric as the top pallu layer – that would have looked so pretty. More than the saree, I find that she doesn’t really know what to do with her hands in pictures, and of late she has been posing with her hand at the hip. I am not sure if she was advised by her team to pose tht way, but it looks very amateur-ish. I wish she relaxed on the red carpet – she’s an incredibly beautiful and confident woman, who is a great actress to boot. And posing that way, somehow makes her look underconfident.

  7. I might be the only one but i think she looks damn pretty.. and not uncorfomtable at all.. she does not know how to pose which is fine.. she is here to act and she does a damn good job of it.. so not being able to pose well is least of my concern. I would have her over 100 others here who just know how to pose and yet sadly they are here to act

  8. But her elbow crook is pretty standard issue, especially whenever she wears sarees; thought you guys would have known that by now given how much it has been discussed in the past.
