Sari Style

Vidya attended the Kolkata Film Festival panel session wearing a red and black Bomkai sari (an Odisha weave). I, obviously, have a bias here being from Odisha. But, we can agree, she looked lovely, right?

  1. At the film festival she mentioned that this saree was a gift from her Bhaalo Theko director from 20 years ago! Classic weaves never go out of fashion.

  2. I’ll be the objective one here, Payal. 😉
Vidya looks superb and the saree is gorgeous! The look would be 10/10 even without the oxidized jhumkis and gajra.

  3. This is NOT a Sambalpuri saree. This is a Bomkai from Sonepur with an extra weft weave. If you call yourself an Odiya who writes a fashion blog, you should know at least this much. Sambalpuris are Ikat sarees and this one has zero Ikat.

    • You are right, it is a Bomkai. Doh! Definitely a big fail on my part! I should’ve known given I have multiple Bomkais with these kind of pallus that I have ID’d many times on my own IG profile. Odisha has a lot of weaves and Bomkai is the name that always escapes my brain with so many others like Khandua, Kotpad, Sachipars…

  4. What a stunning sari in a flawless color combo. The black and red combo is incredible on her. Saris are Vidya’s strongest suit. They really suit her body frame. She should just stick with them.
