Sari Style- Part Deux
At the North-East Festival held in Mumbai last night, Tisca put in an appearance looking rather lovely in her gold-tone mekhala chadar. Wearing her hair away from the face, she finished out the look with a pink lip and Suhani Pittie necklace. Tisca looked nice!

a saree that my granny might pick
Ha ha. Agreed. But I think my granny would prefer a pattu(silk) sari. 😀
Just so you know.. that is also silk. It is the traditional Assamese saree, mekhla . And the silk is one of the finest, Assamese ‘moonga’ silk. Yes, she has chosen a version with too much embroidery, but that’s a craft in its own.
Ah ok. Good to know. 🙂
HOw do they drape this? looks interesting….
This too is silk and Moonga one of finest silks. Don’t mean to offend anyone but beyond south there are really high end silk sarees being made in few other part of india than south.
Simply lovely. I love this woman’s style! She’s dressed ‘North Eastern’ without making a caricature of it. That contemp necklace is just the right touch..Played well!
That’s a mekhla chadar, and she’s looking lovely!
that’s not a saree, that’s an Assamese mekhala.
Right you are!
Thats a mekhala chador… She has’nt draped the chador around the waist, the way it’s meant to be … But she looks great nevertheless…. good to see some celebrities still gettinhg drawn towards traditional weaves
She looks good… But she reminds me of my school teachers somehow…
This girl is fast becoming my favorite beauty from films.. classic beauty like a Dimple Kapadia or Sharmila Tagore ..has brains to match her looks and stylish to boot
Plz correct post. Its not a saree, its a mekhla sador (chadar), a two piece garment. She looks lovely though her mekhla is worn slightly differently.
Why does this look costumey. I am disappointed with this.
As Mekhlas go I’ve seen better. But she looks gorg.
wow, such a gorgeous Mekhla, I have a one too and it looks graceful…I wish she had put a bindi…
She has just worn the Mekhela Chadar in a pavda dhavni way I guess. Though it does not look bad, it doesn’t seem to suit her. The color of the sari with the gold jewelry looks like the many Christian aunties from Kerala who like to keep it simple (sometimes).
PS: Aunties does not refer to “aunty aunty”. It just refers to some of my friend’s moms from there. 😛
This is a ‘Mekhela Sador’ and not a ‘Saree’…as someone has already pointed out the sador is not draped the right or traditional way…nowadays there are lots of mekhela sadors with great colors in traditional designs and motifs making them look very contemporary and stylish and elegant..this particular one she is wearing is a very common one and a little bit out-dated. However, having said that she looks good and extra marks from an Assamese like me for wearing something soooo traditional.
I find this so stunning – beats the Cannes posts. The Mekhala has such a “rich” / expensive look to it ! Wow. I am going to buy this and figure out how to wear it then.
She looks like royalty here.. Love!
all the gold and sheen makes it look too garish and dated. could have worked if she had a contrasting blouse on.
full points to her for trying something different.
It’s a mekhala chador… could you please change the title of the post. For people who know what it is, it’s just annoying to see it being called a sari, after so many people have mentioned it in their comments…
this one is meant for Kasthuri.
This is pretty and unusual.
Can anyone let me know, where can I get this particular saree. My wife’s crazy for dis piece and would like to buy!
If this particular saree is not available, where in Mumbai, can I get Good and affordable Mekhala sador (Chadar)?
Would appreciate your responses!
Thank you!
These is not a saree , it’s called Mekhala Chadar our Assamese traditional dress. You can order it online if you want
