The Royals

Gauravi and Padmanabh attended the Met Gala as a guest of Prabal Gurung who also helped design their looks for the event. Prabal took one of Gauravi’s grandmother’s (the Maharani Gayatri Devi) chiffon sari and made a sari gown out of it. Am I the only one who dislikes the transformation? I get trying to do an updated look on the pink chiffon and pearls but the simplicity that made the look a classic on the Maharani just comes of looking tacky on Gauravi because of the gown design and the excessive jewels.

As for Padmanabh, the phulgar coat was a nice pick but given the layering, you either finish out with a turban and complete the look or just go for a bandhgala look. He probably was trying to avoid comparisons to Diljit from last year but I don’t think he could escape it at all.

In Mayyur Girotra

Dia attended the Met Gala wearing a custom creation by Mayyur Girotra featuring shola craft. Shola craft is one from Bengal using the milky-white of the Indian cork plant and is predominantly seen in the crowns that adorn the Devi during Durga Puja festivities. Although, nowadays, you can see shola flowers and framed art pieces as well.

The using of the craft to make a gown was so very fascinating. I really liked it.

Update: Turns out they used shola art as an inspiration but used other materials to mimic the effect. Which kind of is a killjoy for me.

Whiteout

Natasha attended the 2026 Met Gala in artist Marc Quinn‘s signature orchid brought to wearable form in collaboration with Dolce & Gabbana. The white of the outfit and the asymmetrical diamond earrings made for such a striking look. I, for one, loved!

At The Met Gala

The billionaire heiresses Isha and Ananya attended the 2026 Met Gala and and while their outfits was as different as night and day, they still had one thing in common. A Subodh Gupta sculpure.

Isha wore a Gaurav Gupta sari and structured veil with a jeweled blouse that included a sarpech from the Nizam’s collection. A jasmine hair piece from Saurabh Gupta and a mango steel sculpture from Subodh Gupta (carried as a bag) finished out her look. Somewhere in here there is a “aam log” joke that someone wittier than me can land.

Ananya wore a Robert Wun jacket and skirt and a Subodh Gupta face-piece showcasing his signature style of material used, the steel utensil.

Isha’s look will be compared to Natasha and maybe just for that, they should’ve picked a different color or stuck to the color depicted in the Raja Ravi Varma art piece that served as inspiration. As for Ananya, the mask was a cool touch, the Wun though wasn’t working with the mask.

Men At The Met

Karan Johar and Manish Malhotra attended the Met Gala on Monday evening with wearing the latter’s design. The theme for this year for “Costume Art” and dress code was “fashion is art”. I can give Manish a pass for presenting Mumbai interestingly through his 3-d jacket but the man did his friend dirty.

Like I swear my first thought at seeing Karan in that coat was “Is this some kind of brand collab with a rug company?”. No, seriously!
