Retail Therapy: It’s Shaadi Season Part Un

We have all been there. Out of seemingly no where wedding season creeps up on us, we get blindsided, scream bloody murder, call our BFF and cry, “I have nothing to wear”!

Dust the cake crumbs off your pajamas (you know you were stress eating), and read on. We have some ideas that might be just the gentle nudge you needed.

First things first, the Mehendi.

Whether you are the bride herself, a fabulous friend or a close relative, you know you want to be both comfortable and hit the right tone. Palazzos/shararas are low maintenance and give you the all important mobility. A non-blingy sari when accessorized just right strikes that contemporary note and makes for a welcome change of pace.

Below are some suggestions inspired by celebrity sightings on these pages. Find one that sings to you and make it your own!

Let the festivities (and shopping) begin.

So, the Mehendi is done. You’ve used your entire cache of patience in letting that henna dry out, keeping it on and not stain or maim everything and everyone in sight. Yay! Also, yay you can now let your hair down and shimmy a little. Now, let’s talk clothes!

Whether it’s classic, contemporary or comfy, the trick is to pick a look that works for you and one that you can work, head-to-toe. Take some inspiration from these ladies!

You can never go wrong with a pretty lehenga, all the better for finally trying out those dance lessons you’ve been taking. A contemporary twist on a sari checks the festive box without compromising your fashionista street-cred. But for those of us who have to be dragged away from the dance floor, can anything be better than a non-fussy off-shoulder top and lehenga? No dupatta, no problem!

Now that you have your outfit covered, go on, perfect those moves!

And for the main event… Check back for part two! We have you covered.

Changing things up, Dia picked a Masaba lehenga for recent round of festivities. Aside from her jewelry, she rounded out the look with a black box clutch and pair of gold-toned sandals.

Not a fan of the satin waistband with peekaboo gathered fabric/ruffles. Dia to her credit though makes almost everything look elegant, this included.

At Aamir and Kiran’s Diwali party, Sanya surprised us in her desi avatar in the Masaba lehenga. While she looked lovely, we also wish the lehenga was a bit on the shorter side. The pooling of the gold border was a bit distracting.

Wearing a printed Masaba lehenga, Sophie attended a diwali party last evening. Picking up on the sleeves/shoulder fringe detail, the lehenga came with a with a matching fringe necklace/”dupatta”. A Bottega Veneta clutch rounded out the look.

Not a look we were smitten by; we’ve seen Ms. Choudry do better!
