LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Krishna Mehta & Soumitra Mondal

Considering wedding season is around the corner, be prepared to see a lot of wedding collections during LFW. Day one had Krishna Mehta and Soumitra Mondal presenting such collections.

Krishna Mehta presented a couture collection consisting of lehangas, jackets teamed with saris, and short dresses. Chikan work featured heavily as did sequins and embroidery on fabrics like georgette and jacquard. Like we said, with Diwali and wedding season coming up, there are sure to be many takers.

It’s hard to believe that Soumitra Mondal’s collection used khadi as the base fabric because each of the pieces thanks also to batik looked so pretty and rustic. The collection featured kurtas, lehengas that seemed not too bridal, which is always a good thing since you can wear it more often.

LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Anita Dongre

For her showing, Anita Dongre presented designs from both her labels, Interpret as well as, Timeless.

Anita Dongre Interpret showcased western silhouettes (top row) and though the styling brought a lot to these dresses, the outfits themselves (the solid colored dresses especially) weren’t our thing. Did we really need more ruched jersey dresses in the world?

Anita Dongre Timeless was all about the more traditional Indian silhouettes. In rich and earthy colors and prints, the clothes were easy on the eyes with some very wearable pieces.

The jewelry used for the runway show was by Amrapali. Can you say yummayy!

LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Asmita Marwa

Continuing to play with the theme of ‘Maya‘, Asmita presented a part resort-part bohemian collection which though organic and easy, felt repetitive.

Sure, there were some very wearable separates but ’twas hardly a collection that excited. Back-to-back, same ol’-same ol’… Draw us a chair and call us disappointed will you?!

LFW Winter/Festive 2010: Gen Next Show

The Gen-Next show is one of the more anticipated shows of LFW. Over the years, the Gen Next show has created so many stars that this year LFW is dedicating one show to the past participants that include Kallol Datta and Nachiket Barve to name two. This year’s show featured six designers, of which three of them were duos and one presented a mens-only collection.

One of my favorite collections was The Daily Rag by mother-daughter Megha & Pragya. You’ve got to wonder if Peepli Live had anything to do with it because newspapers was their inspiration and it featured on dresses, jackets and gowns that came in neon colors. It was kitschy to the core ( and a bit reminiscent of Nida Mahmood) but some of the separates would spice up one’s wardrobe.

Jelin George showed a black collection consisting of gowns, dresses and hot pants featuring a lot of sheer, opaque and mirrorwork. Jelin took a more restrained approach with the mirrorwork and the end result was fabulous. All the pieces were sexy without going overboard.

Ruchika Sachdeva‘s collection Biomechanics kept the color pallette simple sticking to whites, greys and black. Tie & dye, metallic striped along the hip featured prominently throughout the collection. Our favorite was the long dress with the embellished cropped jacket.

Sisters’ Riddhi & Siddhi presented a collection inspired by famed architect Daniel Libeskind. Architecture being the inspiration, one saw a lot of origami pleating, exaggerated shoulders/hips in dresses that ranged from greys to blues. The piece that caught our eyes was the strapless number with the pocket-edged hemline.

In direct contrast to their label’s name (Wardrobe 101), Fazal & Akanksha’s went futuristic with their collection that had neon lit outerwear, plastic pipe sleeve detailing, leather patchwork and cord work in earthy tones. Definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.

Zuilee (by Juilee Bendkhale) presented a collection that was marked by drapes/winged sleeves using soft material like chiffon and jersey.

In Anita Dongre

I haven’t been much for these super long anarkalis just coz’ they are so darn overwhelming more often than not. Weirdly though, not the case with Sunidhi who was spotted in an Anita Dongre design while taking in her (Anita’s) show and looking quite lovely while at it.
