Day 3: Gauri Bajoria

Gauri Bajoria’s collection titled Hiji Biji (Bengali phrase for ‘ haphazard’) was absolutely delightful. The collection was marked by colors that were all matte, muted, understated and almost candied variations of the original colors! The collection had a little bit of everything and radiated easy sophistication for daytime glam!

My favorites had to be the blue, green dress and the grey sari with the checkered border!

Nice.

Day 3: Elisha W

The collection by Elisha W was called Viva De Glam and while glam it was, it missed the year by a bit! A bit being decades,it seemed more like a blast from the sixties! See, thats the thing with doing evening wear, its so easy to get carried away with yards of fabric and shimmer that it just ends up looking like ‘Barbie goes to prom’ way back when!

Though not the entire collection could be written off, when Elisha W was restrained, she came up with the best designs. How delectable is that dress in pink and cream with detailing on the neck or even that dress in mauve with pleating and chord detail? Most of the short dresses worked. Even the saris looked good! As for everything else…

If Elisha W learns to edit herself a little more, she definitely has potential. As for me, am just a bit blinded for now!

Day 2: Ranna Gill

Ranna Gill for this collection of hers drew inspiration from Havana and its easy to see how! Her clothes had that retro colorful vibe and the designs screamed vintage… And the sense of ‘fun’ never really goes away and that screams ‘Havana’ to me!

While some pieces were serious design, and you know they’d sell fast and quick, there were others which were just really fun and all inspiration! She didn’t take herself too seriously and played up the theme really well!

I thought the prints were great! The colors were rich and vibrant and the detailing was understated but really well executed! How great was the belt detailing on those fabulous, printed swimsuits? The dresses all had interesting hemlines and detailed necklines which really set them apart! And I loved the scallop detailing that made its way here and there on a dress or two or or on a top, now and then! Oh, and a mention goes out for the way she used ‘floral’, discreet without being over the top! All, good design!

Day 2: Namrata Joshipura

Namrata Joshipura’s collection left me with mixed feelings. I can’t decide if overall, I like the collection or not! That doesn’t help much I know, but let me elaborate, and then you can make up your mind for yourselves!

I loved the sequence in white! Structured fits, clean lines! And those jackets were really nicely done with broad belts, waisted high, wide and deep necklines, and well detailed sleeves.. But then came the sequence of of metallic dresses, eclectic colors, butterfly dresses and sequins. Lots of sequins. I get the concept, but it was such a tired concept! I didn’t see anything fresh there..

The polka dots were fun, especially when used in jackets! It gave the quintessential-bomber-jacket-structure a lot more youthful and street-chic appeal! But then there were those dresses with flower motifs. With a shimmer here and there. Which just didn’t work…

So now you know, why I can’t make up my mind..

Day 2: Monisha Jaisingh

There was not much to dislike in Monisha Jaising’s collection. If there was any collection that was pret ready, this was it! Clean, simple lines, with its appeal lying in uncluttered visual appeal…

I liked the knits with metallic detailing, what a great way to update that same old horizontal striped tee! The tunics were a great example of fusing Indian print with structured, modern fits. The dresses had ready to wear appeal too with their simple silhouettes and detailing on the neck! Sheer printed long tunics made an appearance here too!

Notice how the models were styled? Its that clean/bare, minimal look again! Hair pulled back and very youthful and fresh look…

What did I think of the collection? Not much. Some pieces were good, like those knits. But other than that, very humdrum!
