In Anavila

For the latest round of movie promotions, Sonam picked an Anavila sari. A pair of tan flats and jewelry from Apala were the accessories of choice. While both the sari and necklace were nice in themselves, we just couldn’t get behind the look. The drape was to blame!

Had she worn the pallu pleated out in front or draped across the old-fashioned way, the look would’ve been a whole lot more graceful, and counter-intuitively, lot more youthful as well.

  1. She looks so stunning ! Can’t fault this look. The drape on someone else might look vulgar but Sonam carries it with such elegance. So dig her style!!

  3. You go Sonam! 🙂 Style those sarees.. I just love to see Sonam in these wear, it’s so gorgeous on her. I’m beginning to like her more.
Classy, simple with a touch of sweetness.
I think either way the drape came would’ve looked beautiful. I would love to see this saree draped the traditional way also, it’s a unique saree.

  5. She just wants to look different. Full stop. And she will go to any extent to look different to end up looking LAME. So she has come down to copying Kiran Rao’s preferences in clothing! This look with the sloppily draped pallu screams for some colour! Would have liked some through lips and nails.

  6. That navel is bothering me- put that away and drape the saree nicely and it was a winner.
Love the Anavila linen sarees. Spent all of yesterday drooling at them on Pernia’s online store thinking of get rich quick schemes..sigh.

  7. Like the other commentators, I love this look too. Believe it or not, bare mid-riffs are totally old-fashioned in India. She looks great!

  8. I loved the sari and though I would have preferred the traditional drape, I don’t dislike this one at all! I would have changed the necklace though, maybe something oxidized and long and definitely something lot less chunky.

  9. I literally can’t stand Sonam, but I am quite impressed with this look. She looks natural and good. Rather than white-washed and blingy.

Plus the saree and the jewelry really come together with that brown lip color. Pretty!

PS: Stop being such puritan grandmas about saree drape. The truly old fashioned way to drape a saree is to completely expose the blouse, so take a chill pill 😉

  10. I am on the fence about the mid-riff because it is distracting from otherwise refreshing look. I like the drape itself but it looks better when the saree is sitting up on her waist (like in the bottom left photo).

  11. Oki Sonam we don’t mind the navel show as we know how hard u have worked (out) to show that off 😀 Gives hope to lots of girls out there who r hoping to shed some pounds. Way to go girl!

  12. I dont mind the drape coz its neatly pinned up.. its something about the pleats/look at the bottom that seems like its about to come undone.
Pity, since she’s looking really good.

  13. Not my choice of drape but she is carrying this look really well and looks absolutely lovely. I think the length and style of the blouse preserves the ‘simple’ earthy look. Fantastic jewels, especially the bangle (as always). Well Done Sonam.

  14. She looks simply stunning and elegant head to toe. She totally rocks, she surely knows how to enhance the outfits. The saree actually looked quite boring on the model.
