In Ralph and Russo Couture

Sonam’s second appearance at Cannes was in another light-colored gown, this one also by Ralph & Russo, this one also featuring a cape that had a long train.

While on day one, she wore her hair down middle parted, day two saw her in a sleek updo and floral diamond necklace from Bvlgari.

I think most of you will have the same complaint as you did with Aishwarya about the repetition of color. I myself am quite surprised at the choice as well. Having said that though, the gown with its fitted hourglass silhoutte did look nice on Sonam. But, let’s just say we weren’t quite blown away.

Are you loving this look of hers?

  1. I, for one, love it. That necklace!! Wondering what that semi-circle near the belly area is, though. It looks odd. Do you think they had a brief from Loreal to stick to similar colors on all days to avoid the ambassadors stepping on each other’s toes? That seems to be the only explanation for both women wearing shades of the same hue!

  2. It’s champagne color, not white so there is a subtle difference. I love how the gown fits. The feathery cape adds to the classic look. I think she looks fantastic.
Ash might be naturally prettier but Sonam puts in a lot of effort in her outfits and that shows. I am so far loving all her looks. Sonam has set the bar so high for herself that it might be difficult for her to blow your mind every time but nonetheless she looks outright regal in this outfit. Hope she continues with the good run.

  3. Agree. She looks lovely and I like the cape and gown but a different colour would have been cherry on top of the icing.

    • Agree completely! In fact to take a cue from your comment itself – Deep Red Cherry colour in the SAME dress would have look so drop-dead gorgeous! I so love the makeup. Especially the lip colour & eye makeup!
I’m glad Sonam really took the bar high this time for her. A lot better from last time. She puts in efforts and it shows.

  4. She looks stunning nevertheless! The gown fits her really well, showing off her curves. Love the hair and make-up too. P&P will you be posting the black, plunging neckline number she wore earlier? Please.

    • mediocre? really? this is the opposite of mediocre. it’s such a fabulous look with great make up & accessories. respect your opinion but mediocre it hardly is! xD

  5. I do like the dress on her, it frames her rather well (though not sure what that curious bump is on her stomach).
But I feel the makeup makes her look tired. Last year, everyone looked so fresh-faced and vibrant. Everything feels so much more subdued and dull this time around.

    • To me that bump looks like the bottom edge of a corset or a girdle. I wish she had just work a full body one for a seamless silhouette.

  6. What IS with all these extra long capes/trains? So over them. Once is quite enough for the wow factor for which one is presumably aiming. Repetition is boring.

  7. Loved the hair and makeup on her, she looks regal!, also for the first time I feel its her age appropriate ! The gown fits her so well and accentuates her curves!!! I just wish that cape was gone, without it I feel it would have looked so effortless and timeless! Only yesterday we saw that similar dramatic cape.

    • Her stylist knows her body so well and if you notice carefully, all the three appearances so far have been styled with her arms covered. Her upper arms are not the most toned ( I don’t mean this an a criticism; in fact I appreciate that they work WITH her body shape and enhance it every time).

  8. I’m totally blown away
This looks less white and definitely more champagne
And with that exquisite cape, this dress didn’t need color. I love her styling here too

I actually have grown to like her previous gown after a few viewings too…The cape there was a bit awkward but she can’t be faulted for not brining it

But this dress is fantastic in everyway (with perhaps the minor issue with her corset creating some awkward bumps)

  9. I cannot believe she has done exactly what Aishwarya did and has repeated the same colour and why the same designers for all 3 looks?! Having said that I prefer this to yesterday look and without this floral cape the dress is stunning. I like that someone is listening and put a necklace and ear studs on which just finishes the look.

  10. She looks super stunning, resplendent.
Wow Sonam, you have done so so so well.
Mrs. Rai looked frumpy, matronly and has been unleashing all sorts of horrors on us, purple and otherwise and thanks god for you to keep it classy and elegant.
You own the red carpet this year, both the looks are super smashing. You go girl.

  11. She looks beautiful – I think design wise I like this gown better than her white R and R. I wish the inner corset ?? was more subtle. The eye make up is a little too dark though, I wish it was more natural and dewy looking.

  12. What is the point of this whole greasy and make yourself look few shades tanned make up? They did the same to aishwarya as well (in the lavendar lips). One would think if they are representing a cosmetic brand, then will get their make up bang on! Sonam looks so drained out in that third pic.

    • I agree! Her eye make-up is actually weighing her eyes down… she looks droopy eyed! I can barely see her natural face under all the grease!
I liked the dress, but I wish the cape wasn’t pinched behind the thighs… should’ve let it just flow!

  13. I love this look! The silhouette is perfect for Sonam. It’s great that Sonam went for softer colors. She looks very classy and regal.

  14. OMG Sonu you look curvaceous baby!!! The gown accentuates her curves so well except from the visible corset issues. Also the makeup is oily. Makeup should be fresh for this look. You look gorgeous Sonu, but try different look next time.

    • Oh I saw the added closeup pics now. Her makeup is perfect. Now I can clearly see her face which I couldn’t see all these days with cakey makeup on. She looks like a delicate, pretty dusky beauty. You look perfect in this look Sonu.

    • I think Sonam looks amazing (bar the similar colour to yesterday’s outfit ) but to suggest that people are “trolls” and should “consult a doctor” for not liking her look is just ridiculous. This is a fashion site and obviously their will be a variety of different opinions on outfits, makeup and comparisons to other better/worse looks. Having an opinion is not being a troll. I suggest you just use Sonam’s app or look at her instagram if you only want to see positive comments.
Sorry P&P tired of the misuse of the word troll 🙂

    • While everyone is entitled to their opinion, I do find it hard to believe that they did not like her looks.
I just don’t think there is much to fault. I obviously don’t want to call anyone a troll. But sonam is leaps & bounds ahead of all other people representing India on the red carpet when it comes to fashion. It is a fact that I doubt many can deny

  15. BOMB!!!!!!! I love this look. This is so Sonam’s style & she carries it off with such aplomb. Love it from head to toe, and everything in between. This made my heart smile xD

  16. Sonam is looking really good here !!
However I agree with you regarding the color of the gown PnP.. I am expecting more from her.. This is Sonam we aretalking about.. She brings in so much (sometimes unnecessary) drama for her everyday appearances. So it’s natural for me to wish for more on a red carpet!!

  17. I want to clap for her infinitely 😀 Absolutely gorgeous and diva-esque. I just love the cape and her make up is impeccable. That hairstyle..how can it be so super duper simple yet add so much to the outfit? And no this is not repetition of color. The other one was white. This one wins my heart overall. Sonam..muah 😀

  18. The corset is doing wonders although i wish she was wearing a seamless one if such exists. I am also not a fan of the fake eyelashes here since they look too artificial. Other than that i think this is a fab look.

  19. Awesomeness!! And also introduction of a mature Sonam! This year belongs to her and can I say I’m glad Aishwarya is back in India? Couldn’t handle any more disasters 😉

  20. Sonam looks stunning . First time I have ever liked her look which is OTT(cape & all that) but still so good. The gown falls good on her body. She could have used a full body spanx for the gown, the visible inner corset is the only eye sore.

  21. terrible makeup, patchy and absolutely not blended in. what’s with “regal” being a comment/compliment people dish out these days? the best dressed stars at cannes had a fresh, young and amazing fashion outlook and here goes this 20-something year old playing dress up wanting so hard to look glam, to look aloof, to get the big capes and trails – missing the entire french summer vibe of the festival.

  22. She looks good but again way too overdressed…how do you even sit through a movie screening in this outfit? I am guessing certain parts had to come off. Seems a little too high maintenance..

  23. The cuckatoo has landed ….she is soo beautiful…but sometime clothes do no justice to her beauty…why does she stick to ralph and Russo and aishwarya to Elie saab…why can’t they buy/burrow /steal…other designers couture gowns ????of course it will look repetitive after a point

  24. That corset ruins the look for me.
Even i have a better (seamless) corset and body shaper. How could they ignore those visible lines?

  25. Too made up. Love Sonam’s style always but this time all her red carpet looks have been too OTT.

The make up is jarring. They can keep it natural like French actresses do and she can may be for once, be a little playful and dress her age and be fun. If you see the videos, she looks uncomfortable while walking, conscious and someone who is trying to hard. She doesn’t need too.

She can also try to wear short flirty dresses like Blake Lively, who has outdone everyone at Cannes this year. Plus she never looks uncomfortable because she is hardly wearing heavy dresses, make up or too much jewelry.

For example, her off red carpet looks like the one’s at the airports or press conferences are smashing.

  26. The issues: corset line, her nipples are sticking out despite the corset, and her hair looks too tightly pulled back and oily behenji types.

But when you look at the face close up … Uff! Gorgeous!!!
