In Diksha Khanna

Comment image 67

It was a distressed denim sari by Diksha Khanna for Sonam for Thursday promotions of Veere Di Wedding and when it came to styling, she pretty much did the same thing like she did with her Masaba one (see below).

Having said that, when it comes to offbeat pieces, I go by first impressions. Sometimes I love it at first sight, sometimes I go the other direction. In this case though, my first reaction was, “Oh my, the sari sure got caught badly in the washer/dryer!” 😛

Your first reaction? Come on, show us how creative you are. 😉

  1. Yes, definitely bizarre looking outfit.
But boy, am I glad she is back to experimenting after her relatively safe wedding looks!
We love Sonam for her openness to trying anything.

  2. Why won’t these two sisters leave the saree alone?! It was great when they experimented with the Anamika drapes but this is just ridiculous. Such hideousness in the name of “irreverence.”

  3. Denim sari looks beyond ridiculous!! It really looks like trash – as in something that’s so badly ruined, you’d throw it out in trash. This belongs to WTHeyyyyy!!!

  4. My father’s denim jacket got caught in the bicycle wheels., got dragged for 50 miles. Now all I have left of it is this tattered long denim sheet. Lets wrap it around his dress shirt and call it a distressed denim saree

  5. Absolutely NO! While I appreciate designers trying to re-invent sarees, some just don’t work; this is a fine example. Sonam should have recognized this right away…sad. Neck up Sonam looks pretty though.

  6. OH MY GOD!! Its like that saree (shudder!) was caught in the shredder. This is atrocious! But I guess, that was her intention of wearing this look, to get a reaction from everybody – and I guess she was successful at that.

  7. For once we can wear what Sonam wears…

Go to Mangaldas Market.. head to a cloth “thaan” material shop… buy 9 meters.. and buy the biggest craft scissor you get get your hands on. Voila!

  8. When you realize, you haven’t had a shower and decide to walk through he automatic car wash….

When you’re glad to be alive and unhurt after fending off attacking street dogs…..

When you wrestle like Geeta Kumari Phoagat in a denim saree and emerge victorious……

When you run your denims through the sugar cane crushing machine….

When you tear off and drape a half woven saree from the loom, before it can be fully finished……..

    • Wow!!! so creative! I wish the designer had spent this much time even thinking what she’s designing OR Sonam/Rhea on what she was choosing to wear!

  10. Did she spend all her fortune on her big fat wedding that she has to wear rags now?
How is this designer wear or even remotely stylish? This is plain CRAZY!

  11. Not only is the rag err the so called sari is horrible but the way she has draped it and supposedly “styled ” it is horrendous. Nothing can salvage this dishevelled appearancce.

  12. I have asked this question before, and I will ask it again: at what point do we stop calling a random piece of cloth a sari? I think it’s time we stopped bastardizing the word that defines the garment. Any piece of fabric just draped over the shoulder does not by default qualify as a sari. Call it a cloth, a torn quilt, ripped panties stitched together or whatever, but a sari it is not.

  13. She must think such outlandish , tacky dressing will generate buzz/ promote her movie…I am irritated by the gang of 4 already.. and that oversized (Bhane?) Shirt she wears everywhere.

  14. You must have real confidence to walk around in that disaster.
Its not even an outfit.. its just a mess. Like when your 6 yr old daughter wants to play dress up right after you get home from work so u grab the trusted tatty blanket from the sofa and wrap it around yourself to placate her.
I have heard of pushing the envelope but this is tearing the envelople, stomping on it abd walking out the door. When will these painful promotions end?

  16. It’s not just the saree..! It’s how it’s worn as well. It’s distressed and then she wore it all lose , with a lose shirt and what she under it??
    It just look too volumenous.!
May be it was worn like a reg dare. It would hv looked decent.

  17. Oh, my!

Looks like her dog had a go at it.

This is exactly how rags look like after I give it to my kittens to play with.

Didn’t like the denim saree back then. Didn’t like it this time around too. But love it waist up. The good styling, seamless makeup and she seems to be in a jolly good mood!

  18. She looks like she’s drowning in a very polluted ocean. Please, no, just no to this sort of ‘fashion’. Sonam always seems to be trying too hard and passing it off as high fashion.

  20. In a country that has people wearing clothes like these on the streets it’s hugely insulting that she would wear something like this and get off her Lamborghini or a Rolls-Royce to promote a movie

  21. This is so bizarre. It doesn’t look good even remotely, doesn’t fit well and was a totally unnecessary take on a sari. Sonam needs to dial it back a little. Over-the-top doesn’t always work.

  22. I really liked her in the Masaba sari.

As for the Deeksha Khanna sari, she could have switched to a fitted white blouse. The frills on the play could have been cleaner. My problem is that it is not a clean look.

  23. Ok, at the risk of (very clearly) being in the minority, I have to say I loved it. She has what it takes to carry off such “avant garde” designs convincingly. Its her (Rhea/ Tanya’s?) ability to style the most unimpressive rags like this “sari” and turn it into a cohesive outfit that makes this something worth appreciating. Those girls are amazing stylists!
