In Anamika Khanna
At the trailer launch of her upcoming movie, Sonam was photographed in an ivory Anamika Khanna. Wearing her hair up, the actor finished out the look with traditional jewelry and matching jootis. She looked lovely!

That hairstyle makes her look very old.
The makeup and hair is very odd, almost like a kid playing dress up. You can’t show up at the launch of your movie trailer looking like this =/
My two cents….I think the outfit and the styling is very pretty but I wish Sonam would have saved this for the fourth decade of her life and pick something that celebrates her twenties! She tends to favour these classic looks that are best kept for a later time in her life.
Isn’t she 30 though?
You said, classic. And it does not have to be restricted to a time/age. She rocks the look.
You’d wear that to your wedding…. Not a trailer launch!!! Geez… This woman suffers from too many clothes and too few occasions to wear them. So inappropriate.
So true..
How much ever u guys like her..I have to say that she looks over the top in every appearance of hers! If she wanted to Add drama, she should have gone for a bindi instead of a maangtikka. What ever happened to the fundamental rule of fashion that if u can get rid of one item of ur look, do that before stepping out!
Agree. Bindi over maang-tika!
She looks great. it is going to be a be great treat seeing her promote this film. Hopefully lots more of her in Anamika khanna.
+1. Just not looking forward to all the filtered images…
Hated this look. The hair , make up and dress was so dated. Especially the hair was so ageing and harsh . The lipstick was garish . I preferred Swaras look. The only decent thing was the maang tikka
I just can’t with people commenting the same thing again and again. “Sonam is playing dressup, trying too hard etc etc”, international sites like red carpet fashion awards go gaga over her style but here ppl are still nit picking over what she said in pre historic times. We are here at this site commenting on couture and high fashion beacuse of a certain someone taking risks, otherwise we would be stuck on chiffon sarees and nightmarish satin gowns and no im not sonam or reah…im just someone who loves fashion and believes give appreciation where its due, this is not miss congeniality.
People here commented on how it’s event inappropriate. Nobody ranted on her demeanor.
Umm defensive much huh people, anyway about the look i do feel she doesn’t really look good here, major hair problems.
Wow! Not a single comment above “nitpicked” about what she said a while ago. Everyone simply put their points of view across, from a purely fashion perspective. As for international blogs like red carpet fashion praising her while people on this blog disagree, your comment just makes me sad. Merely because international blogs like something which some of us on this (non international?!) platform don’t, does not make us stupid or any less aware about what looks good. Particularly when she is dressed in an Indian attire, I’m pretty sure most of us here have a far more evolved fashion sensibility and context to comment, than your “international” sites.
I also get the same vibe. Everyone is very biased when it comes to Sonam. To be fair she is gorgeous and looks very very pretty. Talking about playing dress up, I am not sure what is wrong with that. I am least interested in it but if someone genuinely enjoys having fun with their clothes what is the harm. She upped the fashion game across the industry. Now talking about this look, I dont like the mang tikka and the earrings. The dress otherwise is gorgeous and sonam looks quite pretty. Simpler earrings would have added an understated elegance to this look. I also understand why she chose to go the traditional route. This is a Rajshri production. Even swara was dressed similarly but for some reason she doesnt get any flak. Can we try to be objective. And no I am not a sonam fan, find her obnoxious 9/10 times but she looks freaking gorgeous in the trailer of this movie.
+1. I think Sonam is not a good actress, most of the time she across as pretty full of herself, but she sure knows how to dress. Before she came along no one, absolutely no one in Bollywood showed any interest in fashion, it was always the same boring outfits. She single handedly is responsible for the the fact that the public was exposed to designers like Anamika khanna, and let’s not discuss the impact she has had on the careers of people like Masaba and Shahla khan. Many times she goes overboard with copying a look, but most of the time she carries the clothes really well. Love her when it comes to fashion.
For god’s sake, she only followed more western / high fashion.. she didn’t invent fashion !!
Sooner or later it would have come into Bollywood. Kangana wore awesome (many self-styled) clothes in her first movie, before Sonam was on the map.
Event appropriateness is Fashion 101 imo. And dressing so OTT for trailer launches is definitely not that. Even if its for Prem Ratan Dhan Payo.
Only Bollywood does this in-character or whatever pathetic idea it is.
People from other movie industries dress like their normal selves would, to the event in question.
Imagine Meryl Streep dressing as a witch to every “Into the Woods” interview !
+1000 Very well said Sup. You told what I think. Bollywood movies, all the actors and actresses including Sonam follow western fashion.
Accordingly to your logic… just because Sonam introduced India to ‘fashion/styling’ we should just keep praising her. Everyone is entitled to their opinon. Yes, she may have bought the right attention to stylists and high fashion but she still gets it wrong on occasion.
In another context, Rani Mukherjee gave us Black… but she also gave us Ta-ra-ra-rum pummy pumm pum.
Anyway – I see an Indian Princess Leia here. Needed a softer updo and looser makup (dewy). A bindi instead of the maangtika and it wouldn’t feel so ‘wedding’.
Just my opinion… ! x
Sonam does play dress up! If u don’t agree, u have to check all the other posts here of her. Maybe u like over the top dressing, and others don’t? What’s wrong in expressing an opinion? Even international blogs where she is appreciated have commentators who DO NOT like her outfits and styling. The whole point of having a blog and keeping it open for comments is to open a debate. She is nobody’s relative. Nothing personal here!
She looks really pretty. At first I thought it was a bit excessive but Swara seems to have also dressed up a lot so maybe it was some kinda dress code?
A stellar look if it were her engagement which unfortunately it isn’t!
Ha ! You said it
I felt embarrassed seeing her so dressed up in front of the too-casual Salman khan.
Sonam really needs to dress appropriately for events and not rush for her Anamikas every opportunity she gets
I am not a fan of this look. However, I totally believe that Salman is underdressed for this event. He usually shows up at events, weddings in his Being Human T shirts which just proves that he doesn’t care. Or he believes he is above all this stuff.
For once, I disagree with all the comments here. She is at the trailer launch for Rajshri’s film and is in character! While this would be way over the top to launch Khoobsurat, this is perfect for the kind of film she is here for.
+1
Why is in-character limited to dressing only? Maybe she should talk like that character too, and make people call her whatever name she has in the movie.
I find the whole in-character thing totally crap.
Its Sonam attending the trailer launch for her movie, not someone else.
+1. I think she plays a princess in the film. I think for a Rajshri film trailer launch, this is perfect !
Awww look, Sonam’s getting married
Ah!! Sonam overdressed. And she loves playing dressup doesn’t she?
She is a barjatya heroine , playing a princessey role; I think she looks gorgeous and appropriate
+1
Agree, I think we’re going to see a lot of traditional looks, while she promotes the event.
Lovely as she looks, is it not a bit much for a trailer launch? But then I am never going to attend the trailer launch of a movie where I play a princess, so what would I know?
Looks ridiculous coming to a movie trailer launch dressed in a white Christmas tree costume.
Looks completely OTT and gaudy, and the whole look doesn’t look good in this sighting. If I look at the individual pieces, yes the maang tikka and the cream suit looks nice. But that’s all about it. Looks plain silly coming like this to a trailer launch, and purely fashion wise disregarding the occasion, this look barely makes a 4/10.
She is going to the trailer launch of a movie she stars in and it’s a movie where she wears Indian outfits thorughout the movie. It is evident from the trailer that she is in character! I think she looks event appropriate and I do not find the outfit dating her at all – it’s a beautifully classic outfit that she looks lovely in! She can carry off an entirely Indian look better than most Indian actresses and is always confident to go the whole hog in terms of jootis’ and jewellery. I applaud her for this because I think many Bollywood actresses would look lovely in such looks but rarely wear them! She actually has great taste in Indian wear and I think wins in the “How to style Indian wear” by a mile! I shudder to think of the mess other Bollywood actresses – gorgeous ones – make in the styling aspect of ethnic wear. I for one think she enjoys her love of fashion to the hilt and I admire her for that!
Very pretty- the white, gold and silver colors are ethereal. She covered her arms too. The mang tikka – not so sure.
I like the overall look. The maang tikka is perfect because her only ‘other’ jewelry pieces are those gorgeous earrings and ring which appear dainty compared to the tikka. Looking forward to the movie after seeing the trailer as she has been styled by Anamika Khanna (in her princess role) as well.
Oh wow, she is looking lovely. Looks like she in character of the film…
I think she modeled her look to her character in the film.Entirely appropriate for the trailer launch!
I love the colour
Given that the dress is so run of the mill, one would hope that Sonam would bring some charm to this look but unfortunately she looks very dated. The styling and make up are disappointing. This one is a no.
Also as side note – at least in my mind there is no chemistry between Sonam and Salman. I wish they don’t look like cheese and chalk in the promotions and change my mind 😀
And the debate begins. I usually refrain from commenting on posts that are dotted heavily with such opinions, but I DO agree with others that she should have swapped her maangtika with a nice bindhi. It would have been so much refreshing.
The outfit is lovely and already contains big patch work, so the addition of a patch like huge maangtika looks excessive. A bindi would have balanced out the look. No matter, how much of a fashionista she is hailed as, she definitely needs sense of dressing keeping in mind the event.
She looks lovely. But seriously over dressed especially when Prem aka Salman was dressed like he does every other day. And I checked the trailer out and it does not look good.
Well if it’s an appropriate look for a Barjatiya film and this must’ve been the dress-code encouraged why have the men all turned up so casual. I find this very sexist.
Anyway, theme or no theme the hair looks too severe and the maang tick necessary. Not a fan of the outfit, Sonam has done much better and can look much better than this.
Wow so many negative comments! I think her outfit is appropriate bearing in mind the production house (Rajshri) and her look in the film (only Indian wear). I think her hair and makeup are in tune with the outfit and exudes an old world charm which is in keeping with her image in the film. Considering the only other jewellery she is wearing is a ring and earrings, the maang tikka is NOT too much. And if she wants to dress this way and this is what floats her boat, who are we to judge?
Congratulations on your wedding, Sonam!!! …oh wait.
But she looks super pretty.
