In Anamika Khanna

At the Diwali party at her home, Sonam was seen in an Anamika Khanna gharara featuring a matching long jacket. Given the festive day, I don’t blame her for going all out with the jewellery, I actually like the excess here. My only gripe was the gold bag. It looked so out of place here. A cream potli would’ve worked better as a finishing touch.

  1. Agreed. Although it’s a bit much for Diwali (I mean are weddings, Diwali all in the same dress bracket now?), she looks pretty and this is a stunning Anamika after a long time. The bag is ugly and cheap looking.

  2. I had to zoom in just to see what’s going on here!
R u kidding Me? She is literally wearing two of everything ! A saree and a jacket; a necklace and a choker. Ear rings and a maang tikka.
This one stands in the ridiculous category all on its own!!

  3. While Sonam typically has “one too many” accessories, this is the case of too many of EVERYTHING!

Hosting an event doesn’t mean you have to go overboard with your look to standout.

  4. Agree with the other commentators: this is excess done badly! The zari on her sari is silver, her jewellery is pearls, gold, emeralds and rubies (and are those diamond studs??). It’s like she threw on everything hoping each person can find at least one thing to love. PS: it’s Diwali, do festive, not bridal!

  5. A saree drape over gharara and an ill matched embroidered jacket..How does it work for anyone? If it looks that bad on someone so tall, how would it look on average people. Now add all that museum-worthy jewellery to it! Reminds me of school fancy dress where kids dressed up with makeshift arrangements!

  6. Not sure what anyone liked about this look but it’s definitely borderline tacky! Had to look multiple times to make sure it was actually Sonam wearing this!

  7. I her head Sonam thinks that she is a character from the great gatsby – excess is the name of the game, she is the icon and whatever she does would be buzzed about in all the inner circles of society. People may not like her style but that cannot ignore her. She is the queen and the Beyoncé of our time(zone). Hence this ridiculously cringe worthy outfit and jewelry. Ugh!

  8. On the outfit – I find that border to be too much bling – a narrower border would have suited this much better. Or a different drape, but I suppose give she was wearing this with a jacket, that was an obvious way to go.

As for the jewellery, not a fan of any any of that jewellery – not a single piece on its own, much less together and in such excess. I recently went through the Vogue edition with her wedding. I have to say, I found her wedding ceremony jewelry outrageous in terms of its excess (just visually too much, and each piece shined just a little less because it had no space to do so), but I guess if you do that, you have set the bar pretty high in terms of a bare minimum.

  9. Ye hai kya dress? I can see gharara. There is a joint at knees, so a gharara. There is a pleated pallu. And then, a cape thrown over it…confusing!

  10. I agree! that bag looks really out of place. perhaps it was gifted by Bottega Veneta that she was obliged to carry? 🙂 🙂 the rest of the looks not my favorite but she pulled it off.

  11. I am watching this show on Netflix called “Interior Design Masters”. It is kind of like a Project Runway but for interior designers and there is one contestant who has great taste but overdoes it EVERY time. She goes overboard, everything looks like overkill for what could have been a clean statement. The judges also keep telling her she has missed the brief. So long story short, she reminded me of Sonam who does have great taste and an eye for aesthetic yet she falls short each and every time due to overkill. I wish she had let her hair down and worn one of her key statement necklaces along with this outfit.

  12. Given Sonam’s extra-ness over here, I didn’t even notice the unattractive gold bag until you pointed it out! As someone rightly said above, there is no rule that you have to go overboard simply because you’re hosting. There is just too much of everything!

  14. This is such a messed up look. Saree with an overcoat thingy, plus loads of jewellery. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I feel this look lacks elegance and a basic aesthetic sense….

  16. The work on the jacket is actually beautiful but by overdoing the jewellery, she ruined seeing the simplicity of the intricate design. I think had she let the necklaces and that bag go, it would have been just enough with a simple bindi. Sigh~

  17. Ummm, it’s all a bit confusing to me. First the color, I would have preferred something more festive and colorful. It’s a runway look gone wrong. Pretty jewelry though.

  18. I never understand Anamika khanna’s Clothes. I find it too much going on in her dresses. Can’t make head or tail out of the dresses. I always wonder why the celebrities like her designs.

You guys had problem with Pari’s glam look but this costume party look is good? Heights of bias.
    I mean come one.

The whole look is overdone, costumey and circus like.

    Typical y’all.
