In Anamika Khanna

Sonam went the sari route at the National Awards wearing not surprisingly one by Anamika Khanna. If that sari was any closer to a gold shade, I would’ve thought it was Rekha picking up an award and not Sonam, and do you blame me? Between those big earrings worn with that necklace and the gajra, it felt such a signature Rekha look.

Having said that though, her opting not to do a bold lip helped make the overall look feel not way too OTT.

  1. Wow… it looks like she wore all the jewelry she owns. The dull color of the saree is helping offset all the bling but am not a fan of the saree or the OTT jewelry. This was a big opportunity missed for Sonam. On her this looks like a costume, on Rekha it looks organic.

  2. I can’t look past the ill-fitted blouse sleeves…considering Sonam is such a fashionista and this was such a big moment for her, I was hoping for a little more. But it’s nice, nonetheless.

  3. She looks very elegant, sari is is draped very well, lovely jewellery. Not a fan of the saree, maybe a traditional saree not necessarily from a designer would have been a better choice.

  4. One necklace, studs on ears and one row of Gajra would have looked so much better and classier instead of bringing the phrase ‘over the top’ repeatedly on seeing her. This is the problem when one takes the self-bestowed title ‘fashionista’ too seriously. I see Twinkle looking traditional, classy and beautiful at the same event and here we have Sonam overdoing things.

I know there is nothing wrong in pushing boundaries when it comes to fashion but it is also said in fashion…to err on the side of less is more and not ott.

  5. Jewellery is way too much but yes, toned down makeup is helping to balance out the over all look. Blouse is also ill fitted buttttt her face looks exquisite!! Sonam is blessed with very sharp features!

  6. I don’t think I like this look. Her top half looks way too busy because of so much jewellery & that giant gajra. And even though she has done such looks a lot of times, in the second look, the entire ensemble looks very costumey. She could definitely have gone for a brighter coloured saree, atleast it would have looked vibrant. As is, she looks dull. Also, I would have liked addition of a bindi.

  8. Though her jewellery looks OTT, but then it was a big day for her! Also,I believe the blouse is supposed to be the puffed style..which is not very apparent and therefore looks ill-fitted. I like the colour of the saree, slightly muted but suits the occasion and also, kind of balances the jewellery overload! Can’t imagine these many jewellery items with a bright saree!

    • No I noticed the puff style but if you look at the bottom right pic the sleeve is clearly not a good fit- it’s bunching up at the end and looks tight. But yeah it’s a trivial issue.

  9. She looks overdressed, it is not a wedding. Pls feature the best actress winner Surabhi and the supporting actress zaira who were more aporopriately dressed

  10. Really wish she had skipped the neck piece and had gone with a single row of flowers on her hair instead of covering the whole bun- that looks ridiculous. Face is gorgeous otherwise…good make up for a change. Such a missed opportunity this!

  11. Definitely over the top, unfortunately. She recieved a special mention vs. an actual award. The winning actress was a lot more muted in comparison. I am also sorely missing a bindi. On better news, Akshay and Twinkle killed it! Can you feature them?

    • These kind of comments are quite unfortunate. Sonam´s special mention AWARD is no less of an award than the best actress award. It is another category for acting prowess, both ladies were outstanding in their movies. & i don´t like how some want to act like her prize is of lesser worth. Sonam went all out because it was a big day for her. It would be for any actress worth her salt too.
Surabhi wore what she wanted too. Can we not compare both this way.

      • I am not sure that makes sense. You might believe that it’s no less than the best actress category but the fact is it’s not the top honor for the day. It’s a big day for Sonam and her excitement is palpable but to pretend that her award is equivalent to Best Actress is actually taking away from the other actresses’s achievement.

  12. Wish she had fought the temptation to include the flowers and the potli, they are really a bit much.
Instead, a small shiny bindi could have added character. She looks very pretty otherwise.

    • It’s amrapali, it’s heavy but not unbearable. Of course depends on your tolerance overall. Real gold will be even heavier but wearable for a couple of hours if you are used to wearing indian jewelry.

  13. Over dressed as usual. I am waiting to see how she much she will pile on for her own wedding.
The sari is dull looking and none of this jewelry, gajra etc is helping. A neighborhood darzi would have done a better job of stitching her blouse. How do the stylists ,designers and the crew let these celebrities out in ill fitting clothes.

  14. It feels like she’s going to break into “aayO Prem ratan dhan payO” any moment with the signature hand sprinkle wave step.
Such a wasted opportunity with this OTT arrangement. A nice elegant salwar suit would have been SO much nicer. but then when does simple ever feature in their lists, ever..

  15. Why are u comparing her with Rekha .. I think she looked lovely and very event appropriate.
I would dress like this too doesn’t mean Rekha was my stylist !!

  16. The Sari was very nice and a change from those dressing gowns Anamika does. The hair& makeup was on point- why was she& twinkle wearing Gajra? The jewellery was over the top especially for this award but it’s her big day so maybe she felt like looking like a bride.

  17. So what’s the criteria for a National Award? Does anyone just get it? And it’s the same color priyanka wore to pick her award up, but her sari was to die for, and she looked amazing too! This is just … weird.

  18. Dunno about OTT, but it is so much better than the event inappropriate sari that PC had worn to pick up her award.
Being demure and pretty when needed is better than going loud or vulgar.

    • Nothing to do with this outfit, but why do actresses have to look demure to pick up a national award. Just because it has the word “national” in it and it is given by the government, do women have to fit regressive gender stereotypes like demure, modest, sanskari etc? Downright ridiculous.
