In Alexander McQueen

Expectations were riding really high on Sonam this year. While we won’t call this a jaw dropping appearance, it wasn’t bad either. That is if we forget this was a much awaited red-carpet appearance.

The softer hair, the red lips with the heavy tulle gown makes her look so much like a Spanish dancer but to offset the look with those pumps was quite a killjoy.

As we said, expectations were so high especially after last year’s Gaultier look, we were bound to feel a tad disappointed.

  1. I agree with Payal and Priyanka, this year’s look of Sona didn’t even come close to her 2011 look. I wish she had her hair like the model; pulled back. I really hope she wears something colorful and edgy for the last event. STILL MUCH BETTER THAN AISH AND MALLIKA!

  2. Top half perfect, lower half, eh? If it were transparent with the legs showing I’d buy it more than the long johns? underneath.

  3. ThE ONLY one that worked the red carpet this year was Freida. .maybe cause she doesn’t feel like she needs to prove anything to anyone. She has fun always . Sonam’ and the gown look messy. Ash looked lovely too but I preferred her press looks to her Red carpet ones.

    • I agree, the only one who looked at ease and not trying too bad, even if her dresses weren’t as gorgeous as Ash’s Ellie Saab or even this McQueen.

Sonam is so beautiful but there is something missing here.

  4. My heart just broke into many pieces! Why would you do this Sona? To have to wait till the closing ceremony for such a colossal dissapointment! Just awful.

  5. I don’t know what you guys are complaining about! Just as P&P said, it’s not jaw dropping-swoon inducing, but it’s still pretty darn good! Everyone’s suddenly gotten really harsh on her!

  6. really Sonam? I understand she’s young and loves to experiment but would it kill her to dress up in a classic dior or oscar de la renta gown for once for such a major event? her outfit choices are just not working anymore.

  7. Her hair and make up says something, her dress says something else and her shoes say something else.. what a downer!!!
I feel like a fool wasting a gorgeous Sunday afternoon hitting refresh for this!!

  8. That can only be described as a hot, hot MESS.

Nothing works. If this was ANYONE else and the dress did not have a label attached to it, it would have been a WTHEY x infinity.

Why would her friends, family, team let her walk the red carpet like that? Do they hate her???

  9. she hasnt managed to pull McQueen off… id say its because his dresses have always been more abt soul and strong personality and presence than about starpower or fame.
i do like most things sonam wears… she has teh height and the smile and nice hair n skin and a waistline, but this dress needed far less “dress-up” and far more elegance and raw simplicity. the makeup just kills what the dress says.
i feel like shes trying too hard all of a sudden.

  10. What a disappointment I was looking forward for a drop dead gorgeous outfit this year and I get a Goth Princess!!! Oh well will ve to wait for another year now. She looked fantastic n posh last year and this year 🙁

  11. I think since she had to walk on the last day, she was left with the crappiest gowns. All the other spectacular gowns have already been worn on the Red Carpet

  12. honestly I think she looked great! The gothic romance, the red lips, the shoes everything looked great – it may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it worked.
However, I do agree that it wasn’t as stunning as her look last year

  13. Like someone already mentioned this should be in the wtheyyyy category. I am so hugely disappointed with this look. And to think I was waiting to see what sonam would pull off, this is ghastly. Her shoes don’t work, her hair is so messy, and the make up is awful. Why she insists on painting herself white is beyond me. She’s has a nice brown complexion why paint it white? And her forehead doesn’t match the rest of the face. I wish indian girls could just be proud of their skin color!

  14. That is a bad make up job and the dress is not working on her. Goth style doesn’t work when you are at the French Riviera.

    • yes the makeup job is terrible and even more when you see better pics on other websites! whats worse is that she is there to represent loreal/cosmetics brand! haha.

  15. Ugh. Scary. I love Sonam but sorry this is one fugly, busy, people-have-told-me-Im-a-fashionista-so-I- must-try-very-hard look. Relax, girlfriend and look to Deepika P (of whom Im not a fan but she just seems so HERSELF all the time).

  16. Thr is way too much going on in that dress. The turtle neck, the net sleeves, the beaded-lacy-like body, the transparency at the legs. Its all TOO much.
I prefer Ash in the Sari to Sonam in this dress.

  17. I think I love it. it’s gothic meets romance. Rhea styled her beautifully. She looks so beautiful. Don’t know what all this hue and cry is all about.

  18. how could she do this to herself.
should have dressed in a simple gown & looked better, than trying to prove herself as ‘fashion forward’ and falling flat like this.

    • curly short or pulled back hairstyle, with a gown like bottom instead of those nude pants and different shoes would have made a whole lot of difference.
Now she is indeed looking like a spanish dancer.

  19. It’s such an unusual dress, that I’m taken by surprise. Sonam carries the dress pretty well. I wonder if a softer lip color would have made a difference.

  20. I think she looks awesome. Very penelope-cruz- esque. Agree the gown is busy but the ruffled collar and sleeves give a dignity to the appearance without being matronly. Love the hair and make up. Spanish dancer is just the word!

  21. Sonam has looked quite horrendous in almost all her Cannes appearances. She’s just been trying too hard to do a certain kind of look and ending up short. She’s also been looking a little haggard – or perhaps it’s the very loud make up. All in all her Cannes looks have been nothing to write home about.

  22. She is not the best dressed of the week, but I like it. The only thing I hate is her makeup. Her makeup is always so badly applied.

  23. I love Sonam. But, this look would have been better suited for the MET Gala what with the high drama and all, but not for the French Riviera. She should have gone for some citrusy, pastel-y hues with ruffles, lace and lots of tulle!

  24. while sonam looked stunning in the jean paul gaultier look last year…. this year’s look wasn’t interesting at all. Love the red lips though and jut that. Black is anyway not the flavour of the season!

  25. This dress by itself is not attractive and especially on someone as young as Sonam it just doesn’t work. It’s not age appropriate. I can see this on a Helen Mirren or someone, but not her.
