Sari Style

At the Paani Foundation Awards, Sona sure surprised us in this kotpad sari from Orissa. Being from the state like Ms. Mohapatra, I’ll admit I am a bit biased here, as I loved the choice instantly.

What I didn’t love though, was the corn-row hairstyle. She wore the sari so well and I love the eye-makeup but the hairdo felt so jarringly out of place.

Was it a deal breaker for you?

  1. Though the corn rows gives the impression of bald patches, she looks neat and nice for a change. So much better than her usual try hard “fierce” looks and silly stances.

  2. she looks pretty, but what is with the cornrows ? It is cultural appropriation, pure and simple, especially if what you are doing doesnt really honour the culture that you have misappropriated !

  3. It’s a textile indigenous to the Dongria Kondh of Kalahandi. Kotpad is different and is from Koraput.
Just another minor nitpick…Odisha..not Orissa 😛
