Sari Style

It’s not very often that we see Ms. Bachchan wear a woven sari, not on these pages anyway and so you can imagine our surprise at this recent sighting of hers. With the big bindi and matching potli, Shweta sure looked good in her polka-dot sari. The downer however was the shawl. Sure Delhi is chilly but perhaps, she could’ve left it back in her chair while on the stage? Or at the very least, picked a more non-intrusive one and not have draped it the way she did. It ruined what could’ve been an absolute ten!

  1. Maybe she borrowed Daddy’s pashmina?!

It is kind of cool. Though I am quite sure she has more than one, it is like that one shawl you wear with all saris in winter creating its own pattern. A bit of a vintage throwback.

  2. The shawl and the drape look fine to me. Looks nice and casual..and oh just as I was saying this, I noticed it’s been tucked into her waist. So..no.

    • I agree, looks like she dint wear a blouse or wore a blouse which looks so bad that she is covering it up with the shall from wrapped around.

But yes, she looks nice in the sari and nice to see that such sari’s are not forgotten.
ps: Not liking the hair color & hair style though.

  3. It must have been a really expensive toosh. The shawls are THE statement to make for some people, at some stage. And it’s not necessarily a fashion statement, if you know what I mean.

  4. That is how traditionally a bengali woman will carry a shwal ( she is a half bengali) in a formal function. And she is a Nanda not a Bachchan for a very long time. She looks lovely and very graceful unlike a lot of celebrity on this page who you die praising.

  5. That shawl is probably the best piece from Kashmir – vintage – costing in lakhs…I am sure you folks probably have no idea. It’s part of every Kashmiri girl inheritance.

  6. That shawl is the most expensive piece of clothing on her. A Kani Jamwar. Takes months to manufacture one! But I will let it pass considering the lack of handloom knowledge on this website as always. Coming to the Saree and the drape, unfortunately she is too tall to carry a regular waist drape. The sandals show and that is where the whole look falls apart.

    • You are so spot on about these girls lack of knowledge about our own tradition and hand loomAmit heritage. They are too busy catching up the western TRENDS in fashion. Cant complain actually they do represent a generation that is hollow and have no respect or knowledge of our rich tradition. And I doubt this post will find a place in the comment section.

  7. This is a Kani shawl. Worth Lakhs. The shawl is what she’s actually wearing , just setting it off with the saree.
That said, its not surprising that people south of delhi have no need/ heritage and hence absolutely no knowledge or appreciation of shawls.
