Of Promotions

At the music launch of Veere Di Wedding, Shikha was seen in a shimmery off-shoulder black dress by Rhea Pillai Rastogi paired with black slingbacks. Oddly, the dress with its drape design reminded me a lot of her Vivienne Westwood silver number that she wears in the movie. Just me seeing it?

Her outfits for promotional events have seen her in flared dresses and frankly, with her co-stars being so dressed up, her looks have felt a whole lot more refreshing. Very girl next door. And very relatable.

  1. Shikha is a beautiful woman and I like the way she’s been styled for these movie promotions. There’s a tendency for stylists(as well as the women themselves) to hide the non-petite women in layers of clothing and its refreshing to see that not being a case with Shikha. Thank you for featuring her HHC!

  2. Except for the Rhea Pillai Rastogi dress, I am really liking how well she has been styled. VidyaBalan should probably copy some of these ideas, she would look so great!

    • More than styling it’s about carrying the outfit as well. I don’t think Vidya Balan can carry any of the outfits with so much of confidence as she is doing. The outfits are looking good because she is carrying them well.

      • Why drag Vidya Balan into this post? There’s a world of difference in their approach to clothes and aesthetics! I wouldn’t even think their sizes are similar (if that was the ground of comparison) and even age-wise I think there’s no overlap. Shikha’s looking great because whoever’s styling her (ie, in all but that hideous black number) has a great grasp of her body shape and what works for it: cinched waists for shape, asymmetrical lines, wrap-cuts. For the rest, Shikha’s body-confidence is her best friend. Great to see someone who doesn’t fit the Bollywood cookie-cutter featured here.

        • The only reason I mentioned Vidya is because I love her and I am waiting to see her in any sort of western clothes (not that she doesn’t look fabulous in sarees). I do want her to diversify in fashion so that it opens few more roles for her. She is one of the best actresses of our times and I feel sometimes her dressing style is also influencing the roles she is being offered. She has immense talent to play roles across the entire age spectrum but she is being offered older women role even though folks older than her are still playing younger woman.

So when I saw someone who is being stled appropriately and fashionably for her size, I just wished Vidya could also change her game.

        • Because in every sighting of VB, her under confidence and one note fashion preferences are attributed to her discomfort with her size. IMHO, Shikha Taslania proves without a doubt that being bigger (than the bollywood mandate) does not take away from one as a person or as an actor. It doesnt get more mainstream cinema than VDW and she still holds her head high. Kudos for that!

  3. Shikha looks really lovely – good styling matched equally by Shikha’s confident personality. She appears to be having fun and that’s giving out a relaxed vibe which is refreshing. Well done to her and the styling team.

  4. I think she looks great, especially in the striped dress and all of the middle row ones. My least favorite would be the Rhea Pillai Rastogi. I think for the VDW promotions, she has been the best dressed. Kudos!

  5. I didn’t quite like the outfits except for Olio and Labellife. The rest sport the unneccessary high waist or belt which does not come together well. A fun shift dress with fierce footwear wood have been so nice, instead.

  6. It can be done!!!! Curvy women can carry fitted clothes and look great! Shikha looks amazing.Clearly the clothes are not wearing her as in Swara’s case who also looks good but uncomfortable.

  7. The shiny black dress looks awful but i love the striped label life dress. Very smart. On an off side what a difference appropriate styling makes. She looks so chic and even taller in her outfits as compared to the black number. Size really doesn’t matter…its all about how you dress your curves. Nowadays fashion fits all sizes and its refreshing to see girls in good cuts rather than being draped in lots of material to ‘look slimmer’

  8. I agree that everybody else in VDW is dressing only to prove a point. Kareena – I have abs post baby, Swara- look at my transformation…I am now like those hundreds of starlets, Sonam- I wear the newest trendiest outfit irrespective of the weather or the silhouette. Shikha seems to dress like she is enjoying it, having fun …no ulterior motive and that’s why she looks so confident. U go girl!!!

    • Well said. Shikha is so relatable and so are her dressing choices. A breath of fresh air compared to the cookie cutter looks everyone else is sporting.

    • Thank you!!! You put words to my thoughts!! Saw the music launch event yesterday on YouTube and Kareena was all about her abs and pout! Have to say, the snob factor is too high and so evident in the promotions of this movie!

  9. Except for the blingy black dress, she looks fab in all other outfits. Women with similar body shape can take a clue. The clothes have a good fitting yet doesn’t seem like she has stuffed herself into them. To look good, you doesn’t need to have great abs or need to be 5’9 tall. Just dress up as per your body type. Hence proved!

    • Precisely. Except that black dress (ewww, something which Huma & Richa ladies stuff themselves into), she makes other dresses work for her body type. Its because a) being comfortable in their own skin b) picking clothes to suit the body type.

  10. I really like this girl, she seems so normal, and i think she is really cute and very likable. Out of four girls she seems like you can really relate to her.
I hope she comes in more movies. She is so confident and something about very unique

  11. I loved all the dresses. Stuff that I can wear to work.

The only dress that I did not take to was the off-shoulder black dress.

  12. Except the Rhea Pillai Rastogi dress (which is totally ewww, no one can save it!) I am liking everything else. Especially the middle row. Size actually doesn’t matter. And it adds to the charm that she is wearing everything with a disarming smile. Goes to show that with the right styling, fit, attitude and a big smile you can make anything work for you!
