Sharmila Tagore At Cannes 2009: Up Premiere

Comment image 62

For the premiere of ‘Up’ at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Sharmila Tagore chose a green sari with a light pink border details which she coordinated with Victorian style jewellery with rubies.

Its no doubt that she looks great and I know that Sharmila’s first priority isn’t her outfits but considering it is Cannes, I just want to see more. I would love to see her in a rich (do not read as blingy) sari with a statement Kundan necklace.

You can check out more pictures of Sharmila here.

  1. i do like her sari, the color is gorgeous, especially for a day event. the jewelry, not so much. pearls would’ve looked lovely on this sari. or if she wanted to avoid pearls because she wore them earlier, then i would recommend 14k yellow gold with a diamond-ruby combination of some sort.

  2. better than the yellow saree, but not great. For the day events I would like to see her in a colorful chiffon saree, and a better fitting blouse.

  3. Sari is nice, but I HATE the blouse. It looks like one of those cheap cotton ones that you’re meant to mix and match with your sari collection, i.e. it is not a part of the actual sari. The simple plain cotton does not go at all with the rick silkiness of the sari itself. Lovely sari ruined by yucky blouse

  4. I love Sharmila and she looks elegant. But that jewelry is too much for such an ordinary looking sari and the blouse is ill-fitting. I guess I expected more from her.

  5. She has dressed up well for her age but this international event asks for something grand. Those Jewellery looks very cheap.Anyways, I hate those black metal jewelleries.I’m sure she hasn’t consulted any designer for this. Light colored chiffon sarees with thread work (kashmiri, lucknowi or parsi work) would have been perfect for her.

  6. Like I said in the other Sharmila post, she looks good as usual and hasn’t made a ‘special’ effort at Cannes just to give it or herself importance. you are who you are!

  7. Without foccussing on minor petty details, I believe overall she looks elegant, dignified and comfortable in what she is wearing….Being fashionable also means comfortable, unlike ash whose bodice seems to be killing her and causing all that armpit buldge….

  8. Love the saree and the necklace – has a yin and yang thing going there. The blouse is very ill-fitting, seems she is going for comfort than fit. She continues to look classy though. Love the colour.

  9. Decent Saree..ugly blouse…cuuuute dimples! 🙂

(Tangent topic) Soha Ali does look like her mom. Soha also sticks to the same hairstyle as her mom.

  10. I’m sort of in love with that saree guys o_o …really
I LOVE the pattern and ohhhh, I want!
I love the red with the green (it brings out the pink accent) but I think the STYLE of the jewelry doesn’t really match the style of the saree
…and the blouse is sort of fugly and uninspired

  11. SHE LOOKS LOVELY YET AGAIN. I AM SURE THE JEWELRY IS PROBABLY PART OF HER ANTIQUE COLLECTION- I THINK ITS PERFECT FOR HER AGE, WITHOUT GOING OVERBOARD. I AM SURE WE WOULD ALL CRTICIZE HER IF SHE OVERDRESSSED HERE….

  16. Hi guys…I stopped posting comments here but I just had to let you guys know that Shobha De wrote about your website on her blog:
‘Highheelconfidential ROCKS!! Even when they trash me. Just for the record – I do have problem feet and can’t wear closed shoes!’

  17. Beautiful Saree…Jewelry not worthy of a nawab. Hair, a distraction. Could have skipped necklace, but worn a heavy ruby/diamond earring and finger ring. Drawn back hair in a chignon. Footwear, awful. Just because she is Sharmila, it does not look bad. But overall grade D for ruining a perfect saree. D- for not being a begum

  19. The sari is gorgeous – Priya I think its either an upada or an Ahmedabadi. I think it’s perfect for the day and for her age. And I love the fact that she’s gone traditional – it’s a refreshing change from everyone wearing kaamwala designer saris. The jewelry matches well tho its not to my taste and the blouse looks a little loose. But overall effect is very classy.

i would expect more celebrities to look at it. isnt that how the new rules and regulations about posting comments came about, because one of them didn’t like what was being said and threatened a citation or something? (correct me if i’m wrong PnP).

k=, hope you resume commenting, it’s always good to know what people think, especially since you were a regular.

  24. Deewani- the HHC comment appears at the very end of her 12th May post about Rahul G.
I like how Sharmila Tagore looks so charming in the green saree, but wish she’d upped the glamour a notch or two (think Helen Mirren, who’s also the same age)

  25. Gorgeous & elegant as always!! Love the saree, and her jewelry is alright, altho I do wish she had paired a multi-string crystal- cut necklace of plain rubies, would’ve looked far better!! However, I don’t think a heavy trad saree with kundan jewelry is really required for a day event – especially since Sharmila is rarely seen going so overboard, Cannes or not!! And our trad Indian sarees & jewelry do tend to give off a heavy, formal look, more suited to night events. So in all, I think her look is perfect, minus the ill fitting blouse.

  26. Brilliant! Elegant. She is graceful and fabulous. Never mind her slightly ill fitting blouse – but it matches perfect with the sari and looks great. Well done.

  27. Saree is very age appropriate but the jewelery and shoes are BAD! Also whats wrong with the blouse? it looks to be the same material as her saree, what do people expect that at her age she’ll be wearing a bikini blouse or something?!!

  28. Shoes people! Why is she wearing those shoes with such an elegant sari? I agree on the blouse, but she could have worn something other than those cork heeled platform soles.

  29. I htink she looks elegant and timeless. going designer is not always the ways. Remember Jaya bacchan’s green colored fiasco last year at Cannes. She looked like a fool. I agree a sleeveless blouse would have looked better, but she is 60+.
