Sari Style

At their respective events, neither lady went the simple route… Both Mahima while attending a wedding reception and, Neeta at an award ceremony did saris that stood out. Not for the same reason. Happen to have a favorite?

  1. Mahima’s saree should only be worn by a bride with bad taste. Neeta’s saree is a classic, let down by that ugly blouse and dated hair. No contest really.

  2. Both sarees complete for the Flashiest/ Ugliest in town tag.
I can understand Mahima..she’s no designer and wore something she thought looked good, but Neeta Lulla shocks me everytime with her sartorial (non)sense..how can they not get such a simple thing as a saree right..sigh…

  3. Neetas sari is not so bad but her blouse is ugly. Its a gujrati tie and dye saree-the borders are traditionally gold.
Mahimas saree looks pretty and traditional.

  4. Mahima’s saree looks so wrong, just my opinion. It looks like a saree that a bride would wear. And outshining the bride on her day is rude.

    • Did you see the pic of the bride? No even the sun could outshine her-she was blinged out and there could be no doubt as to who the bride was..:-)

  5. I saw this pic elsewhere and wondered if you were going to feature Neeta. YAY, thanks for being different. I adore Neeta’s saree, I have sevaral bandini sarees (just not a black one). They have stood the test of (fashion) time for generations. Although I think Neeta could have worn a better fitted blouse. Mahima looks cute as well.

  6. I preferred Mahima, because it reminds me of Jaya Bachchan in the beautiful red silk saree in Guddi. Blouse is so awkwardly big on Neeta.

    • OMG, I had the exact same thought. Ijust re-watched Guddi last night, and my first thought on seeing Mahima was “Wow”…Love the sari and the whole traditional get up…For a change, I like Ms. Chaudhry..:-)

  7. mahima looks very nice, the bangs should have been little thick though.
On the other hand, neeta is looking nice, except in her case, too much bangs.

  8. I have a technical question.. Mahima’s pallu looks so neat and still near the waist… Can you really pin the pallu near the waist to be sure of neat pleating around the waist ?

I am totally ignorant of how to handle pallu left open

  9. Re Neeta, the blouse is beautiful (if loose). The sari, even more so. Trouble is, they’re not meant to go together.
Mahima looks beautiful, but too bride-y for a wedding guest.

  10. Archana, some women pin the saree pallu on the side of the waist so it can reveal an hourglass fugure and its more manageable. Check out mumtaz, asha parekh in the old movies, its the same style.
