In Falguni and Shane Peacock

Sarah was spotted shooting for And Just Like That in NYC wearing an embroidered lehenga by Falguni and Shane Peacock complete with flowers in her braid and a black embroidered potli. Am so very curious now as to if there is an Indian wedding/party plot in the upcoming series considering Sarita Choudhury is also part of the cast. We’ll just have to wait a few more months.

As for the look, I wish she’d added some color on the lips and not added all those flowers on the maang as well.

What did you think of this look?

  1. The lehenga is beautiful and no respectable fashion lover can say a mean thing about SJP, but the two do not belong together, especially not with that hairdo that’s too severe for her high cheekbones. The stylist should have let Carrie be Carrie or done something like a Neetu Kapoor style salwar suit with hair down.

  2. Looks homeless.. idk if hw celebs love mocking Indian outfits, why would you do giant flowers like a mang tika? Looks funny. Also look is totally in bad taste. No Dupatta, no make up, more like costume.

  3. That lehenga is really gorgeous but SJP looks awful sorry to say. For someone who built her on screen career primarily on fashion and style, you would think her team would at least not make her look caricature-ish.

  4. The lehenga is beautiful but clearly someone with no Indian design sensibilities designed that head full of flowers! Along with the severe hair and expression, the look is totally ruined ๐Ÿ™

  5. If this look is for a tv show, curious to know the plot behind the look. Hence, it would not make sense to have a strong opinion on the styling, want to give some benefit of doubt to the stylist. From what I see, I like the skirt.

    • Plot: someone took a crack at her n replaced her gowns with this and ran away, she had no clue how to dress into these Indian skirt and blouse and had to head out immediately.

      • ๐Ÿ™‚ Plot 2: A white hippie is joyously giddy when an Indian friend invites her to a wedding, and piles on every “New Age” element she can lay her hands on. Also, she does yoga and says “Namastay” a lot.

    • THE PLOT. SPOILERS. random but skip if you don’t want it

Basically she goes to her Indian friend’s parents house for diwali. Indian friend being Sarita Chaudury (Kamasutra fame). Hence the dress up. They reached to many Indian designers to send their clothes. I guess peacocks was selected.

  6. Imagine if white people started complaining about every time a Bollywood celeb wore a gown sari or polki jewellery with a suit? Fashion is fun. Everyone is allowed to put their own spin on it. SJP is not playing a Bollywood celeb or an Indian woman. Her character is a white fashion-obsessed New Yorker (probably) going to a south asian event. It wouldn’t be Carrie if it wasn’t over the top.

    • That analogy doesn’t fit for a couple of reasons. For one, you’re ignoring India’s colonial history, and how suits and gowns became part of Indian attire to begin with. Two, SJP isn’t fusing two cultures here – she took her vague understanding of Indian attire and ran with it — those flowers look ridiculous and reduced the lehenga into a costume. That’s what crossed the line into cultural appropriation.

  7. Sheโ€™s not carrying it with the grace and elegance it deserves. I do hope itโ€™s for a shoot in the movie and not a random gimmicky magazine shoot because that would just be appropriation if sheโ€™s wearing it as a costume
