In Manish Malhotra

While at a Diwali party last evening, Sara was photographed in a cheery yellow bandhani sari by Manish Malhotra. Matching accessories that included pink potli and jootis rounded out her look. I wish she hadn’t skipped on wearing earrings because despite the glass bangles, the look felt a touch bare. But the fact that she chose a non-fussy but just as festive a sari to wear sure earned her back some of those points! She looked lovely.

  1. I don’t agree. That’s two pink accessories too many and her hair looks really badly colored. If she insists on keeping this unflattering color, might be a good idea to braid it and style it differently once in a while.

  2. I LOVE the saree. Such a referesher to the idea that festive looks can also be so simple and rich-looking without velvets, zardozi and embroidery!

  3. I work in strategy and I can tell you she’s hitting all the right chords; “be relatable as and when you can and show your fans and audience that even though you are Bollywood royalty, you still connect with them and understand and respect the normal folks out there” So that no one thinks and says “she’s a nepo kid”

And this shows in her everyday and off events style- relatable and classy … something that us lesser mortals can aspire and afford … the sari is lovely and something I can wear and afford … how many times can I say this here, for others posts 🙂

    • Yes strategically and deliberately placed PR and marketing move this is. Not trying to be a cookie cutter in Bollywood, and trying to connect to the aam aadmi. No designer or blingy sari, no one boob drape, no bikini/bra blouse, bangles and accessories from her personal wardrobe without borrowing from labels to make it look like she has her own individual style. And a certain nonchalance in kurtis and saris to not look like any other in Bwood. But hey, I will take this over the tryhards and wannabes. Tired of them. That’s why Sara’s Indian looks seem refreshing.

      • Absolutely agree… it’s a very deliberate PR strategy… connect with the audience on an emotional, relatable level. All brands are aspiring to do so…. I do this for a living and that’s like brand 101 for millennials… wait and see, she’s going to start endorsing causes and put it out there …. As a veteran in the business, I’m very very impressed with her acumen!

        • Uh – this obviously isn’t really her acumen. She’s hired people perhaps like you to tell her to do this. But yes, I do agree with the analysis that this seems like a very structured PR narrative

      • I think she’s actually thIs very person.. no current day prs can Instil so much real ness in any stars. That’s different level of PR effort your sure to not find in current times. Given her down to earth upbringing it shows in her and her brothers public behaviour.

        • Agree n I don’t know if many people know this but Sara from her maternal side too has royal conbection. So kudos to Amrita Singh for giving grounded upbringing to her children.

  4. Well props for wearing a non bling, non designer saree.

But this is not really the best pick of an outfit. The contrast of the saree and blouse would have seemed nonchalant if it hadn’t been for the meticulously matched shoes and bag. I am
Not a fan of the glass bangles here. If she had worn this with the same color blouse or a plain blouse of any cont tea sting color, worn earrings and kept the rest of the look neutral color wise, it would have been more festive wi th our trying.

  5. Love her choice of saree & blouse …& that she decided to go with a saree
Wish she had skipped the bangles altogether & gone with only jhumkis..
& no to the pink colour potli & jootis… maybe a dull gold instead..

    • My only worry is Sarah always looks rather contemporary, and she will not fit Bhansali’s imagination of ‘beauty’ ‘ethereal’ dreamy, decked to the nines, bejeweled, and oh so vulnerable and love struck leading lady. And I heard that she wants to.

  6. And if she had worn earrings, you would have said “wish she had skipped either the earrings or bangles since there is too many strong elements” or something to that effect.

  7. WOW. I have no words. Regular saree draped over décolletage. No Chandbalis. Jootis. For a mainstream up and coming actress to dress this way, out of the cookie cutter mould. No words.
    Oh wait.. found it.. GUTS!
    Will wonders never cease.

  8. Love that saree, will wear it in a heartbeat…maybe ditch those pink shoes and tie up the hair but even as is I’ll take this look over the flashy shararas and ghagras. This might be a well orchestrated PR move to keep it relatable but I also think it has a lot to do with how her mother brought her up and her education. It does not look like a put on.
