In Sabyasachi

Not everyone was in Dior at the Dior store launch although if Kalyani Chawla had her way everyone would be! 😉 Sabina wore a white lehenga (worn the half-sari way) and was such a sight for sore eyes amongst all the gowns. It’s not that the Dior gowns weren’t delish. But, there is always something so soothing about seeing a traditional outfit!

  1. Seen her doing Sabyasachi endless times now, would have much preferred a classy Dior look…..

nothing soothing about this look and tired of her quirk, would much prefer her being normal for once!

  2. dont want to sound ageist, but half saree is something that looks nice on young girls/ teenagers. atleast that is what i have seen in the south. find it odd on middle aged women!

  3. As much the half sari-lehenga is nice & different, this looks is not working on her. Not trying to be an ageist but half saris look better on younger women.

  4. Usually like her quirky look but I agree that this is a young look and doesn’t suit her. Do you think if she left her hair loose, it would have improved the look?

  5. Oh such a lovely attire but fits her horribly…

But on second thoughts, there is a sincerity & honesty about this look. Like she was never trying to look perfect… Its liberating at times 🙂 🙂

  6. I love it, she looks so traditional yet quirky at the same time. Is it true half sarees are worn by unmarried girls usually? I was thinking of wearing one but would not wish to appear ridiculous. Maybe she should have stuck to a saree instead?

    • It is traditionally worn by young, unmarried South Indian girls. But Sabina I think, just wins out on sheer surprise value 🙂
If you do it her way, without trying to look “young”, & adapt it to your style, maybe it’ll work.

  7. @Ash – traditionally half saris are worn by unmarried girls…i wore them a fair few times in my teens and early twenties
    (and i’m south indian)

However, of late it has become more of a fashion vs. tradition so it’s not uncommon to see young married women wear half saris even in hyderabad/bangalore etc…so if it doesn’t look ridiculous in cities where the original tradition was followed, i don’t think it would be ridiculous

That said I think for me someone in their late twenties, maybe thirties would be fine – but i think sabina does not look good in the half sari. I don’t like the outfit itself firstly…and i don’t like how she wore it

  8. That outfit makes want to go play dandiya!! So regardless of who had worn it and what age they had this outfit does not work with where she’s at. At a Dandiya party she would look awesome but a “”dior store launch”” not so much
