It’s no surprise to see these two ladies opt for silk saris but the question is do you like? We certainly do.

  1. Both ladies look gorgeous. Wish Vidya had a different hairstyle and i don’t think she deliberately dressed like Rekha. By the way no one ever too old or young to wear these sarees.

      • It’s sad if Indian women start thinking that wearing a sari=looking aged. I’m 23, and I LOVE saris and wear’em whenever I can. Cheers to Vidya for staying true to her style aesthetic.

        • I agree… a sari is worn in India from the age a girl hits puberty. Woudl be sad if its attached to “ageing” ! I love both their loooks.

        • Totally agree with everyone – judging by most peoples comments its like nobody but rekha should dare do this look, however go to any wedding in south india and more than half the guests young and old will be dressed like this. Agreed, vidya does not carry herself as easily as rekha does in such a saree, but that comes with practice. Vidyas is still a gorgeous saree, i’ m about the same age as vidya and i’d wear that in a flash!

          • I think because Rekha has really dominated this look and because Rekha is always held as an example of a timeless non ageing beauty – Vidya is going to be compared to Rekha in terms of age, someone Vidya’s age shouldn’t look just like Rekha but I don’t think it actually has anything to do with the sari itself being “aging”… I’ve seen many young women wear Kanjeevaram sari’s and still look more youthful than Vidya. Vidya’s makeup her hair her tikka they all age her.

  2. their styles look so same.
except rekha looks great & vidhya boring.

i appreciate vidhya for wearing sarees when most r dressed in gowns, but she should try others sarees, hairstyles, different makeup & small bindis.

  3. Gorgeous women both! Love their attire, but Rekha’s look is more complete, and she is a pro in handling a Kanjeevaram saree, while Vidya looks like an amateur.

  4. Rekha’s saree is well draped and she carries it effortlessly too! Vidya’s saree is a bit predictacble and it’s draped a tad untidily too! Wish she was a bit more adventurous with her dressing style. Kudos to Rekha, for looking so great! A true Diva!

  5. So bored of Vidya. She never surprises us,she wears the same thing all the time.Vidya is dressed exactly like Rekha with the hair and all. She’s too young to dress like that and she has a long way to go before she can be in a league of someone like Rekha. Just because she’s a good actress people are not judging her as harshly as they would do other actresses. If Aish was dressed this way ppl would be pulling her look apart left and right.

  6. Another thing wrong with Vidya’s saree is it’s too much fabric. If she wanted to wear a saree fine, but the fabric should’ve been cut more.

  7. I hate heavy silks. But there is an awesomeness to this pic.

For those saying Vidya looks Rekha’a ge, Rekha and Sridevi used to dress exactly like this when they were young. Check old Filmfare presentations. Times have changed and Rekha’s style has remained the same, which is why this seems dated though in fact it is more a retro nod to the 80s.

Like I said I am not a fan of heavy Indian styling. But folks its not a style for old people. Its a strain of Indian fashion (see Devdas, Indian soaps etc) and its best we recognise it as unique and for all ages – like we recognise Bollywood 🙂

Sometimes the comments here are as montonous as Vidya’s choices 🙂

    • I do agree with you Sridevi and Rekha used to dress up the same way , but Sridevi was a lot junior to Rekha and Rekha taught her the art of make up and dressing up . Now Vidya who openly admits to copying Rekha is nothing new. Rekha has been in the the industry as a heroine since 1969 so please give her some credit. Not that it makes a slight difference to her popularity what any one thinks. This thread where Rekha is compared to some one 25 yrs younger than her says it all, lol

    • Thanks everyone for comments.

IMO, Rekha doesn’t look good in these saris anymore, she should have evolved instead of being like Miss Havishman but that’s just my opinion. I wouldn’t say VB was copying Rekha either but she is definitely trying to create an Indian aesthetic similar to Rekha/Shabana/Jaya etc. Its way harder for her because she is doing it in a body con age where saris=maami which is why many of us defend VB’s choices.

Rekha herself was copying South Indian actresses, it’s pretty standard wear down South. However I do credit her for introducing the Southie look to the North in the 80s (keeping in mind that Hindi films financed in the South from way back always had actresses in half saris, Kanjeevarams etc.)

Apologies for long post on a by now old piece!

  8. This has been Rekha’s trademark style since 70’s before Vidya was born. So any one with a bit of common sense would choose Rekha. Why choose a copy cat when you have a perfect original. That said both the ladies look gorgeous and they both are amazing actresses.

  9. Vidya’s sari itself is nice, but I wish she would try pleating her pallu sometime instead of leaving it unpleated all the time – it will look more elegant on her!
