  1. p&p,
i know manyy have asked u in the past. but honestly, u have found so many such cases! why dont you want to group them all under one title?? its hard for some of us to try and keep track of all of them separately..
if u dont want to give them a separate title, u could atleast tag them together maybe? it seems like such a waste of effort that we cant find it later when we want to.
    just a suggestion ofcourse.. xx

  2. I think it’s really commendable that you do this, but I still don’t understand why you did not publish my comment re. this matter on a previous post?My intention was nothing other than to condemn this sort of thing strongly.

I really enjoy reading this blog, but, I did feel that it was wrong of you to delete my comment without giving an explanation as to why you found it to be of such material that you could not publish it?

Please get back to me this time.

    • Kaya,
You comment was approved the last time itself. We had just missed it in the bulk approval that sometimes we have to do early morning…

  3. I’d just like to add also that you may have found it to be strongly worded but the designers I spoke about have been found to plagerise, and does anger someone who loves fashion to see designers from their part of the world doing something like this so blatantly…Let me know what you think

  4. Tsk tsk.. I hope someone sues them. I really don’t understand how they can copy, do they have no shame?! This is their BRAND… their name is there… why would you want to be known for ripping off other designers!? It just doesn’t make anyyyy sense.

  5. Why Am I not surprised? Indian designers have no imagination whatsoever! They always have to rip off an idea- how to prove this notion true! it’s quite sad, since there really is soo much talent in India- just wish they had enough confidence to see that

  6. WOW! they are doing their THING again. what is funny is only one in a 1000 get caught like that.

  7. for a copy it is completely un-remarkable. it looks washed out, and the beige is just yuck. it looks un-ironed and it seems as if a child has painted on the design. no finish.
chloe’s is wonderful. youthful and fresh, love it

i’ll second the suggestion, please have a tag for all the plagarised clothes. it makes for an interesting read and will help us when we go looking later

  9. I have always loved Ranna Gill’s creations but she has lost her respect by copying these designs. She is a fairly established designer and I wonder why she had the need to copy so blatantly.

  11. I’m sorry but does the dress on the runway look crinkled and in desperate need of steaming? It’s on the RUNWAY I mean come on! What a completely boring dress. The Chloe one is okay but I wouldn’t personally ever buy it.

  12. Absolute disgrace!! And this is just the tip of the iceberg! It amazes me how editors in India, and the powers that be in fashion circles don’t get this! These so called ‘designers’ are given huge column inches and adulation, and carry the torch for ‘Indian’ fashion, whereas the true talents are rarely ever seen or get the opportunities they should. I’m cringing with embarrassment. I just cannot imagine how Ms. Gill could have been so bold as to do such a blatant copy!!! She knows she can get away with it! Disgrace!

  13. This is not new for Ranna Gill. I mean the copying bit. She has done it before. Her printed ikat collection couple of seasons back was a direct and blatant lift from Oscar De La Renta.

I know of a lot of designers who get expensive samples from international designers/brands and rip them.

  14. I commend you guys for finding such instances and bringing them in front of us. I understand the word inspiration but on the other hand lifting the concept, the colours, the print, does anyone keep tabs on this ?

  16. O my god, what a shame, travesty!these designers shoud be excluded from official fashion weeks as they are a disgrace to INDIA!

  17. This is so sad. Coz Ranna Gill’s designs do have that quality that make her stand out. She need not have dragged her own name through mud like this.

  19. According to what Victory mentioned in Lipstick jungle, fashion designs are not considered art – in the sense that there is no patent for the designs, so it is possible for people to copy and get away with it.

  20. I’m actually more amused by the comments about how good Ranna Gill is usually. Am I missing something? The last time I checked out Ranna’s collection in Delhi, the clothes were hideous to put it politely. Perhaps there’s a certain kind of buyer who laps that sort of stuff up in India.

Let’s not generalize based on a few instances. There are plenty of very talented, very original designers in India – a few bad apples shouldn’t taint them. Manish Arora, Sabyasachi, Dev r Nil, Ritu Kumar, and the one marvellous Delhi based designer whose name I’m totally blanking on.

  21. i dont think so that u cant have patents on designs..infact u can have patents on the bizarrest things ..i mean motorola has the patent for flap phone…apple has patents for its ipod designs..u also have patented designer bags n purses..n u can sue anyone for copyin the designs..but there r ceratain guidelines for that n also it depends how well u can convince the judge..n copyin in fashion desingin is a very old practice so stop cryin bout indaisn being a copy cat…american designers copy a hell lot frm the european designers thou they do not copy among eactother…its not big a deal atleast in this industry…n how do u know all this coz i keep on checkin things n facts whuch are discussed here…loll..

  22. I’m embarrassed!!
Why do they have to do this!!
I’m pretty sure that there is not such a lack of talent in the country that these guys have to do this.. that is such a blatant copy!!
Its instances like this that make the headway that people like SAbyasachi , Manish Arora etc. have give to the Indian fashion industry go all waste!! The credibility of the entire industry is lost!!
I remember a few instances where the work presented was a total rip-off of Elie Saab or Oscar de la Renta creations!!

  23. OMG, this is just sad!!! I mean every international brand from Hermes to oscar de la renta to alexander mcqueen are coming up with india inspired designs and our designers STILL dont have the confidence to make their own creations, I think it would be an optimistic estimate if I said that around 50% of Indian ‘designers’ are ‘inspired’ by internation lines.

  24. well it doesnt for sure…all i wanted to point was that its jus not the indian designers doin that….n also i m free to give my opinion..life is hard enuf y makin it more hard by starting a debate…or in other words buzz off…lolzzzz
