In Sabyasachi

In attendance at a recent event as part of her upcoming movie’s promo-tour, Rani picked Sabyasachi to wear. Pairing the Sabya floral kurta with culottes/cropped wide-leg trousers, She finished out the look by wearing her hair down and picking kolhapuri wedges for the feet.

Ms. Mukherjee looked good but we had two minor issues with the look that we just couldn’t ignore. One, the actor is clearly at a loss on how to style her bangs. Two, not a fan of those embellished cuffs on her kurta. With the cropped pants already drawing our eye to the ankle, wish the kurta didn’t have those embellished cuffs further breaking up the body-proportion visual. On someone taller, say Deepika, it would’ve been a non issue. On Rani however, the cuff-detail was just one detail too many.

  1. Pray tell me how does that white pant go with an otherwise lovely kurta. A plain back churidaar would have elevated this look..And why cant she wear heels? Its not like she is 5’8 and up.

    • If you are short, do you have to wear heels ? I dont understand this obsession with height. I am 5 feet 2 inches tall and perfectly happy with my height. I dont need to wear six inch heels to look like someone I am not. When plus sized women are encouraged to embrace their body type, why not women of all heights?

      • I am okay with not wearing heels. I am 5 feet myself and comfortable with my height. But flats don’t go on all outfits and this one being a case in point.

    • Actually I take my comment back. On a closer look she is wearing heels. Platforms. She needs to buy better footwear. That’s not doing her any good.

  2. I have a basic question. When an actress wears some designer’s dress, isn’t it the designer’s responsibility to oversee her head-to-toe get-up, as well as advise her on choice-of-cloth (accessories) with respect to body-type ? Instead of picking on Sabya (each time), I think we should pick on Rani’s stylist.

With the kurta drawing all the attention, somebody should have taken the cuff off (or made it monochromatic); somebody should have made her wear fitted white pants (I suggest black); somebody should have tied her hair (I think the open hair clashes with all the print); somebody should have made her wear heels.

She seems to be drowning in that kurta. Her face looks lovely though.

  3. While the white culottes are pretty I would not have chosen them to wear with the kurta. Don’t like the way her bangs are styled either. I think the others may be right about the pregnancy rumor that just started…but then I gained weight just after marriage as well.

  4. P&P agree with you on the cuff – it really shortens her arm. The cropped pants, as short as they are, shorten the leg, so she ends up looking all stubby. Not a good look.

  5. Its how I dress up sometimes at home – Loose matching less pants over a good Kurta 🙂 But since she is out she should have worn some matching pants.
