In Sabyasachi
It was a Sabyasachi sari for Rani Mukherjee who presented the Dalai Lama the Mother Teresa Memorial International Award in New Delhi.
We don’t have rights to the full-lengths picture but you can catch two here and here. The stacked bangles were a nice addition. Can’t say the same about the necklace though.

Sorry, but why is a BOLLYWOOD actress giving an award to HLH Dalai Lama? This is too funny.
LOL I was wondering the same thing
only in India
i dont get it either….looking at the expressions on both the dalai lama and rani, they don’t get it either.
she does look good though…
Ludicrous! Seriuosly, this sets another level for bollywood overkill!
true!!..though she looks fab
The first thing I thought of as well. This is just taking it too far. Officially sick of this Bolly invasion; only thing is I’ll have to go hide under a rock to escape it, it’s so pervasive.
Exactly what I thought… why-o-why…. apart from that, the bangles are a bit too much and call me old fashioned but I disagree her wearing a sleeveless blouse in front of Dalai Lama.
True. Despite the fact that Ms M looks lovely, why was she picked to give DL an award? for Social Justice..? Social justice and Rani probably never even appeared in the same sentence b4. Now waiting for DL to say how much he loves her movies…
atleast its not shahrukh khan.
i wondered the same thing. Who is she to give an award to Dalai Lama ?
You girls are so right. Can’t think of a bigger misfit. A bollywood actress giving an award to Dalai Lama? Are we so short of eminent personalities in India? 🙁
she stars in a movie called “No one killed Jessica” alongside vidya balan based on the Jessica Lal murder..hence the association(albeit VERY, VERY loose) with social justice..weird pick for an award presenter i know but as close as we’ll get to the explanation as to why she was chosen…
My question is…HOW is an actress, any actress capable of awarding His Holiness Dalai Lama?
This is like Sarah Jessica Parker awarding the Pope. You get it? lol.
Exactly! she does not deserve to be in the same stage as him, she is a big hoe!
the necklace with the bangles is a bit of overkill, but how luscious is that neckpiece!
Can’t she change her blouse?
Why is Rani Mukherji giving an award to Dalai Lama??
But, she is looking very appropriate with the understated saree and makeup. Like.
Yep, after getting over the Rani-giving-DalaiLama-an-award-!!! shock, i do think she looks nice and appropriate. Wish she would get over the sleeveless blouses and open hair.
Rani looks like a million bucks!! Totally digging this apperance. Are those hair extensions on her? If they are, she makes them work as well.
Ok, i think Rani looks absolutely amazing but i personally think (maybe it’s my conservative views) that for this occassion she should have had longer sleeves on the sari blouse or perhaps pulled the ‘pallu’ around the cover her arms! I mean it’s the Dalai Lama… you guys agree or am i being too old-fashioned?
you have my vote, sari blouse plus this makeup is more than a kill, it’s Dalai Lama!
P.S. why Ran,though?
too many typos, i meant Rani ofcourse!!
You sound like my husband’s grandmother 😀
Na I agree completely.
No you are not old fashioned. iTS AN insult to Dalai Lama.
Why in the world shd Rani be chosen to give away that award. And having been chosen, shd have worn a long sleeved blouse and covered herself with the pallu.
i can’t believe this. you think a sleeveless blouse is disrespectful in some way? and a blouse that came up to the elbow would be respectful?
agree with jasmine. especially since the DL himself often wears sleeveless tunics. ha.
she is truly & simply beautiful!
im bored of these monotonus srees by sabyasachee mukharjee 🙁
i loveeeee the saree the color is gorgeous as well…the bangles are lovely and the necklace look very trendy still it goes so well with the saree..the look is very sexy yet elegant!!
Soooo pretty 🙂
gorgeouS!
Of all the people in India, Rani Mukherjee? Seriously?
I wish it was someone working in the “social cause” type field would have given away the award. Why bollywood?
I know, it’s such a joke.
Rani giving an award to Dalai Lama??!!?
She looks beautiful. But the conservative in me (where did that come from?) would have liked it better if she had not worn a halter neck to a Mother Teresa award.
The saree is nice, but normal Sabya. Is this from his line of cotton sarees? And yeah, the necklace is a little too much.
Does anyone else see the orange blotch on her arm?? What IS that?!
A shadow..
Umm. I’m imagining Priyanka Chopra giving this award.. yikes!! If Bollywood is the way to go then Rani’s the best option and she manages to look subdued and hot at the same time.
If this award wasn’t given by rani we would not have known it was even being given. Like it or not Bollywood gives such events more screen time.
Wow, it’s a sad day for India if the only thing that would give the Dalai Lama “screen time” is a Bollywood actress presenting him with an award.
As for Rani, she looks gorgeous! And oh so ethnic, I love!
Why is Priyanka worse than Rani. Rani is far more moral than Priyanka is that the logic. is she really?
err..the explanation is far less controversial… Priyanka would wear a blingy MM.. enough said.
side profile was never Rani’s strong profile, if i didnt know this is Rani, i would never have thought this girl is gorgeous.
and yes why exactly she presenting award to dalai lama.
What the hell does Rani Mukerjee have to do with the Dalai Lama or Mother Teresa, leave alone SOCIAL JUSTICE?!!! (biting my tongue to not swear) India is sick to be bollywoodizing everything like that.
She looks lovely. Like the sari too. Understated and not one chamak challo.
But then, the choice of Rani Mukherj to give away the award baffles me
Ok I love Sabya as much as the next girl but in 2009 when we had to go to a desi party a friend of mine (who wanted to stand out in the blinged out crowd that is the typical desi NRI party) wore pretty much the exact same sari in a deep burgundy that she got from FabIndia for INR 550. I guess I kinda expect something more inspired and inspiring from Mukherjee.
As for Rani, I agree and wish she had worn a more conservative blouse and ditched the jewelry (seems like overkill, no?) but I think she did a good job. (I shudder to think what A-Rai or PC would’ve worn if given the same task.) And she looks lovely.
Seriously! what authority does Rani have to hand out an award to Dalai Lama!
don;t like the pairing of THAT neckpiece with this saree……also the blouse could have been different….the saree is pretty
Why the hell is Rani giving an award to Dalai Lama !! This is just downright weird so many other people work hard for social justice… seriously what were the organizers thinking !!
On another note the sari is very bland and the pairing with that necklace is totally off…
I know its just a cotton saree with a border tacked on but its still gorgeous and I want one!
most of the ppl are criticizing that why Rani Mukherji is giving away the award to Dalai Lama and nobody is discussing her dressing the real purpose for which the picture has been posted here…i want to say to these ppl…when you dont know the appropriate place to write down your opinions than you dont even have the right to complain that Rani giving the award to Dalai Lama is inappropriate!!
its just a sleeveless blouse guys, hardly think the dalai lama or the sisters would be offended by the sight of bare arms. I think she looks lovely.
I’ll stick to discussing here outfit here.. :)..beautiful sari and nice textured blouse but the bangles are totally OTT and the necklace just doesnt go! she does look lovely despit that.
Shabana Azmi would have been a better choice, if they HAD to pick someone from Bollywood to present the award.
i like the sari BECAUSE it doesnt look like a sabyasachi design. rani looks nice in a sari, nothing new about that.
Fab saree.. is a typicalt type of saree that you get at most shops.. I actually love the necklace and the bangles.
Needs a blouse and hairstyle more suitable to the dignity of the event.
Is this a cotton sari? or a silk saree
