In Missoni

Ms. Mukherjee made an appearance at the Sahachari Foundation charity event in a Missoni dress. Am guessing someone told Rani that vertical lines can make you look taller and thinner except it doesn’t work when it comes to this Missoni dress. The material is too thin and clings to her hips and in fact makes her look bigger.

We didn’t like it one bit. You?

  1. It is a nice dress but not for Rani. It makes her look like she has saddlebags. Why is she forcing her smile? Rani looks tired with those bags under her eyes.

    • Not big but that dress clings to her hips and accentuates them which I don’t think is something she was going for. She looks good to me-just about right but this particular dress just doesn’t help her with her recent attempts to look thin and fit etc.

  2. Bust and upwards, she looks very nice, the best in the recent outings. Only if the rest of the outfit had been a plain dark blue, this dress would have rocked on her. This just makes her look short.

  3. I completely agree with P&P. Long stripes are supposed to make you look tall and thin but this has an opposite effect. The dress does not look like a maxi on the mannequin but Rani’s looks like a Maxi. Perhaps if she had worn the shorter version, she would have looked better.

  4. Dear Rani

With all my best wishes as a once upon a time fan of yours, PLS PLS do the following ASAP

    1. Go to a nice spa and do something for your puffy tired eyes (like cucumber slices while getting a nice facial
    2. Hire a stylist who will find you the right outfits for your body type and the occassion
    3. Work on building your self confidence, as that seems to be sorely lacking in all the recent pics Ive seen of yours

    • HAHA!!! Nice letter.. you forgot to sign it 😉
I hope she reads it!! 😀 I do agree with the confidence thing, especially in the Harpar’s Bazaar photos (with the embellised bra)!!!!

  5. Its not that bad. Looks okay. I didn’t like the color scheme.

But that condescending tone ” Guesing like somebody told Rani ” ….is bad guys. We are not better than the Bolywood stars just because we can get a couple of their pictures and comment about them. I love your blog because you stick to talking about the fashion. Why not continue doing the same. Why get into small talk like this ?

  6. Come on guys, let’s give Rani some credit for stepping out if her salwar. I actually think the make-up on her is one of the best we’ve seen on her. Her hair is just the same old poker straight Rani hair but the dress is actually cute on her. And I actually happen to think that it’s OK for actress to not be stick thin. So what if her hips look big?

  7. Had she worn a saree again , it would have been the same old look ! I think people should give her a break . She is really making an effort and experimenting with clothes she wouldn’t wear before . I think she looks cute.

  8. HOT!!!!!!!! So what if it clings to her hips? Rani has lost weight but still maintained her curves. Her eyes do not have bags, they are naturally puffy at the bottom! Makeup is bang on, as is hair. Love love love!

  9. I think she actually looks quite nice, her face looks radiant and the hairstyle is good too. The problem with the dress is the bodice, the top part is too big, i mean its not empire waist truly, if the top part of the dress ended a few inches higher, it wouhave looked nice and maybe a different footwear would have helped, but please she is not looking big by any means. She does look short here.

  10. I think she looks great, the larger photo is not very flattering since it is taken at close angle. Rani should look at some of Frieda’s photos, when being photographed always stand with one leg in front of the other, it makes one look taller and the hips look smaller.

  11. I think the vertical lines would have worked, on a shorter dress, grazing the knee. That would have given just enough curves like on the mannequin. A full lenth vertical stripes dress is definitely not the right choice for anyone with any curves.

  12. The dress is nice but doesnt work for her because the material is clingy plus her height is an issue.
I think a knee length or shorter version would have rocked on her. People who are short in height should stay away from long dresses.

  13. I disagree with people who say that short women can’t wear maxis. I believe that shorties can wear maxis & skirts/dresses which are inches above the knees. Anything in between just doesn’t suit.
It’s heartening to see that most of the comments have been positive ^_^ – & I agree with them – congrats on Rani for experimenting with fashion.
I like this look on Rani – it’s fresh & chic. Keep experimenting & having fun with fashion Rani!!

  15. Rani has lost oodles of weight at this age (shez in her thirties right?), give her credit for that!!! whats wrong in dressing young and making the most of your weight loss? Im happy seeing her in something other than those matronly salwars. baby steps right (in yr own words) ??

why so many anti-RANI sentiments? many are saying she should have worn the shorter version, had she done that, then the comments would be that she is a wannabe, trying too hard, dressing like a starlet etc etc blah blah and BLAH.

dress is fine, not the best for her body type but neither is it THAT bad to warrant some of the comments here.so one picture is posted (out of 100 others) with rani half-smiling, so everyone goes like.. she doesnt have the confidence, she should free herself, something is bothering her, she is forcing herself… haha WOW!!

    • Preeths, it’s okay to have your opinion, but I don’t think there’s any need to criticize other people’s opinions just because they disagree with you. If someone thinks that she should’ve worn the shorter dress, that’s fine. Also, the sentiments are anti-Rani, I don’t think anyone here has a personal vendetta against any star, because frankly, we don’t know them personally.

It’s okay to speak in defense of your own views, but to tell other people that their views are bad, that they don’t have the taste to appreciate something, that they are too critical of the star in the post, all these comments are kind of unnecessary. I’m not saying that you’re at fault in the examples that I gave, but there are others as well on this forum who react to differences in opinions in that manner (I am clearly referring to the recent Hi Blitz post).

Sorry Preeths, just because this comment comes as a reply to you, doesn’t mean that I am trying to single you out or anything. It’s just something that I wanted to say in general.

  16. Have to say that a shorter dress on a shorter girl is so predictable the length of this dress and the stripes are not the problem and honestly I dont’t see it clinging anywhere on the hips its different its fresh … its cute. the problem is not rani but the dress… Missoni sometimes gets so predictable they need to do something clever with strips although some accesories would also help this dress.
