It’s Relative!

We don’t quite know what to make of Rani’s outfit. As interesting as it is and I use the word ‘interesting’ quite loosely here, it’s much too casual, perhaps even a tad sombre to be worn at someone’s wedding reception.

On anyone else, it in all probability would’ve been far more cringe-inducing, so it is to Ms. Mukherjee’s credit that she didn’t have us reeling in shock.

  1. why sombre? You are going bye your west tinged sensibilities= equating black with sombre. Not so by Indian sensibilities. Her outfit is not sombre..it may not be festive enough for a wedding though.

  2. personally, i feel its an insult to the host if someone dresses this way. its like they dont give a damn for their important day of life

  3. out of all the saris she has at home.. she chooses to wear this!?!? there better be a good excuse to show up like this.. such as loooong shoots. otherwise.. it’s just ridic!

  4. Not that she should really wear this anywhere but least off all to a reception. Geez – it doesn’t take deep fashion love but plain common sense.

  5. HAHA! Your commentary reminds me of my HS art teacher. She was like Meryl Streep in the Devil Wears Prada, except instead of pursing her lips she would say “well, it’s… interesting” in this strange high-pitched voice. She used to make people cry, but she loved me so it was okay 🙂

    So yeah, this is… interesting.

  6. I am shocked that Rani wore this to a wedding reception. Even if it was after a long shoot, she could have taken (or asked her assistants to bring) a better outfit and changed in the dressing room. There is no excuse for this. Well, maybe if she came directly from the airport.

I liked the dress but not at the event in the heat of summer.

  7. i never really liked her sense of style but this is just awful!! i would’nt wear this ugly “thing” even at home. What on earth made her wear that to a wedding reception of all things?? i agree this is definitely an insult to the host.

  8. This is exactly what she wore to the Sydney Film Festival a few months ago in Australia. I think the idea is to let the scarf do the talking, but it looked weird up front and still looks weird in pics.

  9. looks like she’s coming straight from shopping or a casual movie date with a friend.
she has a killer indian wardrobe and jewellery … why would she choose this?!

  10. The one thing that I wonder above all is what goes through people’s head when they do such things? I actually, genuinely, wonder. I don’t think long shoots, coming from a prior engagement, etc. is really an excuse … it takes 5 minutes to change clothes. I can’t really think of an acceptable excuse … and yeah, I would feel slightly offended if I was were the host.

  12. the outfit is bad, the make up even worse. But I guess this is how she really looks, without photoshop, bright lights and skin “lightening”

    • i think that rani and kajol are the only actresses who havnt done skin lightnings because they are still dark from the day they stepped into this industry…and if you look at her without being biased you would see that she is better looking then an average Indian woman…she might not be the most beautiful one but she is the most attractive…and if bright lights photoshoping and heavy makeup is used for those who you called most sexy and beautiful then why cant rani mukherji get benefits from it??

  13. I actually LOVE the scarf (where can I get one?!) and the look she put together isn’t all that bad.

However, I do doubt the appropriateness of the outfit as it makes her look like a stressed-out Event Coordinator or Wedding Planner… all that’s missing is a headset and clip board as she hurries back and forth between guests and the bridal party!

  16. I love the clothes actually, hate those earrings and I agree that they don’t exactly fit the occasion. If she was out for a shopping tour I’d like it, though.
