An Optical Illusion

Considering the print of this maxi dress was quite busy already, we’d have prefered it if Rani had skipped the beads and worn a chunky bracelet instead. What say you about Rani in this optical print maxi?

  1. she’s only been back in the limelight for a few weeks now, but her look is already getting boring…it’s the same hair, style, and makeup every time…and that footwear is hideous!

  2. way too busy. i’ve never been a fan of the type of printed maxi dress and this one is no exception. also those shoes are dreadful!
rani is looking good from the neck up though

  3. The look is very blah. Don’t like the dress and esp don’t like the beads. She looks good-meaning fit-but somehow the dress doesn’t do her fairly toned body any justice. Also in the close up pic her face looks tired-it doesn’t have that freshness and that charm/liveliness that I’m so used to seeing in Rani. Not digging the footwear at ALL.

  4. EEKS! WHY does she wear maxis??? Short people + maxi dress = very rarely done well. The fit of this is weird in the bust area, the beads are TOTALLY uneccesary and the hair is back to being limp and unflattering. Middle parts shouldn’t be her thing. The cakey makeup, too, makes her look haggard.

      • agreed!! – shes more self conscious with the short dresses though. And the hands linked in front look mighty awkward with both long & short dresses

        • im only 5′ 4″ and i work maxi dresses pretty fine thank you very much.
agree on the self conscious bit. this is where ‘dresesing to please self’ part comes in.

          • I’m 5′ 1″ 🙂
I’m just saying, it’s not EASY for short girls like to wear maxis, and with Rani’s record, I wouldn’t risk it. Do you really think she’s conservative? Wasn’t she wearing a tube top a few days ago? and what about that whole Sabyashachi bra thing? How many prostitutes has she played again (nothing wrong with that, those are the more interesting roles)?
            …if she’s conservative…well, then I’m confused. I mean her entrance in KKHH…
Quite honestly, she’s never given off the self-consious vibe to me; I just think she’s just not into fashion and gets bad advice.

  5. This is a nice dress but not for Rani. She is too short for it. The look would have work as a knee length dress and with better shoes. Those white shoes are ugly.

Plus she looks better with full hair since her face is so big. The flat hair is not working.

She is trying but missing the mark.

  6. Why are people so against maxis? I think it does work fine for short people as long as you wear heels under.. if you look at her body in there, the legs look really long and it’s elongating her figure rather than cutting it off. The print is very tropical and batik I quite like it.. I think it looks good on her. The beads are a bit unnecessary a bracelet would have been better. Her hair could do with a change, somehow these actresses always seem to forget the hair.. wish they would start with the hair first than the makeup! Sick of the comments re: her “confidence” or lack of it.. she’s been in the business for a long time I’m fairly sure she’s plenty confident.. just because she isn’t grinning like a maniac like she used to (and like a certain Miss D’Souza) doesn’t mean she’s lacking her usual charm or not confident!

    • Agree, but don’t you think that halterneck was a bad choice? I think it makes her shoulders look really broad when clearly in real life she is itty bitty!

  7. I’m going to have to disagree with most people here. I think she owns this look. Maxi dresses work on all body types so I certainly don’t think this one makes her look short. The length is right…it’s not like sometimes when very tall girls wear maxis and the length becomes very awkward if it is too short.
Plus, bangles with maxis are sooo common. I like that she changed it up with those beads.

  8. uh oh! shez back to being boring again. the print of that dress hurts my eyes. the beads aren’t doing anything for her or the outfit. shoes are awful too.

about the only thing i like about this appearance are her eye make up (rest of the face make up makes her look tired) and hair color.

  9. There’s so much going on with the dress! Besides she’s too short to wear these maxis. AND THOSE SHOES!!!! UGLY! How do I apply for a job as Rani’s stylist?! haha

  10. i like it, print is nice, she doesn’t look too short in it. plus, i like the beads too. just don’t like the shoes. and would be nicer if she had her hair up or in a bun!but overall i like it!

  11. Nicole Richie owns maxis and hello how tall is she.. like 5’1 or 5’2. Seriously I’m really sure none of you would say that Nicole is too short for a maxi.. am also sure none of you would say Eva Longoria looks bad n a maxi and she’s the same height! Such double standards tsk tsk. (However I do have to say that Eva and Nicole rock their dresses and Rani nowhere close to them.. but I never said that Rani was too short for a maxi dress:) )

  12. I actually kind of like this and these prints are a rage in my university right now..

I don’t find anything wrong with her look really.. the beads actually follow the diamond pattern in the design but end up clashing with it.. A simple bracelet would’ve been better.. and honestly don know how he shoes could have improved..

  13. she could have done better than those ghastly white buckle shoes, although the dress was long, the shoes are still noticeable, I agree with the beaded chain, she shouldnt have hide away such a sexy looking neckline 🙂
