In Manish Malhotra. Again.

Ms Chopra, was in Delhi at the India Today Conclave 2009 as a speaker for the session “Youth Forum: Can The Young Drive Change?”. She wore a sheer black Manish Malhotra sari with a halter neck blouse.

Although sari itself was nice but it seemed too cocktail-ish for such an event. You like?

  1. agreed! this sari was inappropriate for the event. she needs to take a few tips from preity zinta on what to wear at such occassions.

why does she come across as such a bimbo?

  2. Is it just me, or is that saree gorgeous? I mean, it’s very Manish Malhotra, but this one stands out for some reason.
    It’s not very event-appropriate though.

  3. @SS: No, I’m totally with you! It’s actually quite subdued for a Manish Malhotra, and would be lovely for a red-carpet event. But for a youth event??? Not so much!

  4. It’s not exactly appropriate but it is pretty. And her speech there was not “bimbo” like. She spoke how she felt and I think she did just fine.

  5. How disappointing she chose a sheer saree to speak at a youth forum. This one seems appropriate at a swanky Bollywood party not for a serious event …

  6. the saree is so uninspired!!! and why would she wear such a tacky belly-showing saree to such an event?? and ahem.. why exactly did they choose her to speak??

  7. @Tanika,

i didn’t hear her speech, so can’t really judge it. when i said bimbo, i meant her wearing that sari at a youth conference. it does come across as very bimbo-ish, as in she didn’t even think beforehand about where she was going and what she was wearing.

  8. saree’s okay, she doesn’t look that great, boring asusual, seriously needs to do something about that!!

what was she thinking wearing that to such an event, she really has got obsessed with showing her body too much thesedays, its just annoying.

  9. Sari is nie but completely inapropriate for the event she was attending – as an aside I saw the filmfare awards on tv and was amazed at how much body makeup this gal was wearing – I mean we all know most actresses pile on the slap at these events but her whole body was covered in makeup that gave her such an ashy appearance – methinks someone likes to cover up exactly how dusky their complexion is!

  10. LOL – nice sari. But where did she think she was going? The other women were dressed appropriately. Also why is she always posing instead of taking natural pictures?

  12. Looks like PC got a haircut that shes trying to hide… bc her hair was pretty weird in the blue MM sari, and now this… i think shes just trying to detract attn from her “haircut?”…

  13. I also agree Payal. it seems very Cocktailish.

btw, I heard that lately there are petticoats available that do not need the long strings that make the waist look bulgy….any idea on that?
Also, what kind of petticoat would you guys recommend to avoid that bulginess on the waist?

    thank you

  15. I agree with the others that this is not exactly an event appropriate attire…..she should have worn this sari to amrita arora’s wedding instead! lol She does look nice though

  16. Didn’t Aishwarya wear something like this sari to Zayed Khan’s wedding or some such event?

The sari looks good for a MM creation. Not suited for this event though.

  17. Rashmi – most designers now make satin petticoats with a buttoned waist so there is no drawstring and hence no gathers. These are more fitted to your body.

  18. sigh. all that money – no taste. its a nice enough saree – but as everyone before me mentioned – so inappropriate to wear something so ditsy and cocktailish when you’re speaking at a conclave

  19. Atleast give her credit for wearing the saree in an appropriate manner and not the one boob showing that is sweeping over bollywood. Hey, if she has a body to flaunt why not flaunt it…

  20. My mom has a very very similar saree n its very very old! Does fashion come back or do designers not use their minds these days n keep coming up with whats been in vogue years ago?
