Sari Style

Am not one for florals but you can’t deny the elegance of a beautiful floral chiffon sari and that’s exactly what we spotted designer Pratima Bhatia in recently.

Love the vintage sari on her that she paired with strings of pearls. My only gripe would be that clutch which stuck out like a sore thumb. Wish she had opted for a simple minaudiere instead. As it stands though, we love this appearance of hers…

  1. i must disagree- totally tacky, right from the print (wrong type of flowers, they are too big,and the colours don’t agree, esp. the colour of the background) and the trim, which makes it ten times worse.

  2. the way she has draped the sari isnt right…it makes her luk dowdy!!!
on its own, the sari is wonderful though!!….very good floral pattern and i like pearls also!!…but it is the subject who hasnt carried all the stuff well!!

  3. This really is very elegant. I do believe a lot of the elegance comes from the person rather then the clothes.

Imagine Vidya balan wearing this print of Sari then we’d be singing a whole different tune.

  4. wow – she looks so chic and like you said loving the whole vintage thing what with the fantastic pearls and simple accessories. I’ve got a floral silk chiffon similar to that and she’s made me want to whip it out, attatch a border on to it and wear it right away!

  5. i don get you ppl sometimes…this is sucha a eyesore..n the pearls such mismatch…u guys have sucha pattern..give u a non glamourous kinda look ..u l go gaga over it even ifs really bad eg nandita dad in her silly skirts..n then after some days u ll rip apart the same thing…

  6. Not fair.If it was Vidya Balan in this saree, you’d have ripped her apart. The shiny border is tacky, and the pearls could have done with a few strands less. And how sad is that blouse?

  7. I love this appearance. It is a classic. Plus the multistrand pearl necklace makes it look young. if it was a simple one-strand pearl necklace, it would look aged. love it!

  8. How do you guys know it is a vintage piece? May be it is a vintage inspired print? It seems to have detailing that is more updated like the sliver lining on the blouse and sari. Would you be able to confirm if this is vintage or not? Maybe she took her mom’s and updated it ..either way I think it is a spectacular piece…very Gayatri devi…

  10. i hate floral sarees too..maybe small floral print wud do. this wud be my moms fav saree but not mine..so yeah def vintage. looks like she matched her clutch to the border. the pearls need to be smaller in size. overall, it suits the woman. i wud never wear this

  11. I don’t understand what so regal about this sari. It looks like the typical thing women wear when buying vegetables at the sabji mandi.

  12. agree the saree is beautiful but she should’ve worn a different blouse either a black or the color of the flower. also the clutch is sooooo not complementing the look

  13. To be fair to PnP, they often don’t have a problem particularly with what Vidya Balan wears, but more so with how she wears it or how she falls into a boring rut.

I think the sari is pretty. I would drop the clutch, switch the blouse, and reduce the strands of pearls. However, the woman carries it very gracefully.

  14. Very gaudy and tacky indeed!
Don’t even get me started about the draping bit…
A true WHATEYY for me….she should donate it back to her maid servant….

    • Wow… I’m sorry to harangue, but that doesn’t sound classy at all. I’m sure if the maid “servants” could afford better they would dress well too…They wear what they can, and if that be floral nylon sarees, I don’t think we should diss them for it- at least they wear them with personality and grace. Instead, why not try “donating” some of our lovely Kanjivarams, etc. if we want to raise “taste” levels?

        • hear hear eclat, I am coming across so many comments on this site which say my “bai” , “maid” would have worn it. do we even realize how classist that sounds.
the lady who works in our place works from day to night in several homes and looks after her own home and kids, but still wears a nice saree every day ( dare I say draped better then most ladies on this site) with a beautiful red bindi and has her hair in a neat bun….sorry for digressing from the topic but for me this is what well dressed means, making the best use of whatever resources one may have.

  15. This is a very classy look from the lady. I totally get why PnP like it. It is age appropriate and personality appropriate. The same may have been a different story on a younger woman.

  17. that sari is not only tacky but its badly draped too. Those pearls are such a mismatch with the gold border & gold accessories…and i dont think its a vintage sari.

  18. You may want to call the sari vintage inspired unless you are sure of its origins. The ugly watch, extra large pearl necklace, gold bracelet, and the mismatched clutch… nothing is working here for me.

  19. beautifully done…harks back to the days of royal understated looks…very maharani gayatri devi!! love love love…reminds me of all my rajput aunts in jaipur in their gauzy chiffons and pearls 🙂

  20. I’m going to disagree like mad here!
The blouse does not fit right, the saree is not draped right, the pearls are 3 strings too many, to wear with a print like this, and the outlandish ring and gold bangles clash with the pearls!
And do I see Pink shoes peeping put from beneath the saree hem??? *be still my beating heart!*

  21. This is so ordinary plain… I love floral chiffons/georgettes but this one no way… and agree the pearls are two strings too many, teh drape is not right..and gold bangles and gold ring with pearls .. no.. if she wanted gold she should have opted for a gold neckpiece instead of pearls and it wld be ok…

  22. I love floral chiffons with perals and that’s my standard look in summer for office. This could have been a classic look, but firstly the saree is really badly tied, the border is not nice. The print is so-so.. I have afar better collection. Still its a nice, understated look overall. I still think Gauri Khan’s floral saree was a great look( P & P had not liked it). In delhi dos, most of the ex royal women have this look down pat, esp at the races

  23. Come on, now!! HHC…you are not serious, are you? there is nothing in here worth liking. now if Sharmila Tagore wore this, not only would it be age appropriate, they would also have the hair and ommph to carry it off…that is simply not happening here!!

  24. I love this saree although the pearls are a little too much in your face. I wish she had taken the time to wear it elegantly like Gayathri Devi .

  25. very elegant .. reminds you of yesteryears … it is such a relief from all those chamak-dhamak manish malhotras and those heavy kanjivarams…

very beautiful …. simple floral chiffons are really not in vogue, haven’t been for a long time but when i see someone wear it, i love it instantly.

They do tend to make a person look older but if you are in your late 30s or in your 40s, then it is a classic understated look that stands out amidst all the glitz n glamour.

  27. Good look..could have better though. .Chiffon and pearls..reminiscent of Maharani Gayatri Devi. On the flip, she could have done herself up far better.
