Parvathy at Cannes 2009: ‘Bright Star’ Premiere

Comment image 64

Former Miss India Parvathy Omanakuttan also walked the red carpet of the 2009 Cannes film festival on both day two and day three. I thought the black and white cut-out gown was way too pageant(y) and quite bad, but boy who knew it would only get worse. I am hoping that it is just a bad pic because that gold sequin gown looks awful on her!

The reign is over, Parvathy. Time to get out of the pageant clothes mode. Flashy ain’t always best!

  1. such a gorgeous gal and such a bad choice of clothing!
the golden dress looks like a longer version of a top i have from express!!! 😀
less said about the b&w dress is better.

  2. The golden dress is so ill-fitting and ugly. The black one is equally bad. I remember how much flake Aishwariya got 2-3 years ago when she started going to Cannes..but compared to these girls (incl. Barbara Mori’s gold dress), Aish looked gorgeous even in those “bad” dresses.

  3. both gowns are just awful! the cut off one resembles something from a late 90’s bollywood movie and she seems to give Bappi Lahiri a run for his blinginess with the gold dress…is she in a movie? why is she at cannes?

  4. Wow. That gold dress is positively ugly. I mean it in itself is super ugly. WHY would she pick it out? Who picked it out for her? Why did she not protest and scream that she would rather go naked? WHY. Why do people do this? Why that gold dress? OH WHY!?

As for the black and white dress, I’m pretty sure I saw the exact same dress on a girl in my neighbourhood today. And no, she wasn’t fly out to Cannes, she was going to her high school prom. Sad. Sad. Sad….

  5. Love her hair and makep but the clothes are super tacky. Don’t these women learn from watching others? How about hiring a stylist!!

  6. Why her at the Cannes ?
What happened to Akshay, Priyanka, and Kareen at the Cannes this year ?

    Btw.
I like her jewelery and makeup. The gold dress is very tacky. The B&W dress is ok. Very prom-bueaty queen-ish.

  7. The black and white dress does not flatter her figure. She looks like a ‘wardrobe malfunction’ is imminent.

The gold dress is just plain old fugly.

  8. The gold dress is kinda snake-like..and not in a good way lol and the black/white one is positively Yuck :S
btw why is she there anyway?

  9. A SHOCKING disgrace!! There should be some sort of fashion committee which vets our Indian stars before they go abroad and crucify our reputation at high profile events!! LOL!!

  10. LOL@all the comments. It’s her first time, and some took almost a decade to get close to getting it perfect. I thought Devon Aoki in blue-grey looked the best yesterday.

  11. Wow! Both those dresses are DISASTERS. Why would you even consent to something that unshapely, not to mention, horribly fitting? She looks as if she’s got no hips, this weird posture going on- not to mention AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF EXTRA FABRIC ON HER BACK. Shame.

  12. oh dear, the gold dress..why would she wear that?why?and her makeup is too pasty..she looks awful in the first picture..and the second one reminds me more of Cruella de Vil..
she is such a pretty face otherwise…but needs a good stylist and makeup artist.

  13. The b/w gown is quite alright, but the gold sequinned one is ghastly! What was she thinking? And as if the sequins were not bad enough, the cut is awful.

  14. ewww.. is all i can say.. I mean how can anyone wear those gowns… its downright tacky .. Both are typical Bindu / Aruna Irani kind of dress that tehy used to wear for their item songs long back in tehir movies… And to think she was a miss World runner up !! I am angry at her for inexplicable reasons for dressing up like this .. though i know its none of my business !!
May be some 7 oddyears later she would get it right too!!!

  15. P&P,

Could you please post pictures of Ash wearing a lovely blue dress/ gown .. I just happened to see that on some other website.

  16. Oh dear…Tacky would be an understatement! Just look at the finish of the gold gown and the cheap white sequins on the B&W gown…NIGHTMARE! When in doubt, wear a saree Parvati. And better jewellery.

  17. Di blaque one is not bad but very amateurish red carpet appearance – di gold one is such a disaster – it’s not even her size!!! look at the extra space at the back… she would have looked better if she went out in her PJ’s!

  18. though i really dislike the outfit..but i love her flawless make up!! she really looks fresh…
and the white and black one is too ‘filmy’

  19. AARGH!! these pictures infuriate me so…. the B/W excuse for a gown is terribly constructed…the gold is an awful mistake, hair and makeup is totally dated…
and you do not need a stylist to make someone look half-decent ..

  20. My God!!! What a walking disaster she looks like on both the days!!! Instead of the gold sequin, she should have gone for a dress made of golden lam`e fabric, if she did want to wear all-over gold!!! And the black & white dress is too……..hurtful….to the eyes!!

  21. TOTAL DISASTER.
who would even try that golden dress, forget wearing it on the red carpet. and i see some sparkly stuff on the white-black gown, as well. whats with her sequins obsession? arrgghhhh

  22. HHC(everybody!),

I’m starting to wonder if that gold dress is backwards. Doesn’t it seem like the bunch of fabric in the back would fit like a bust and ruching along the tummy? The “front” is so straight it looks like the back…which reminds me of that Max Azria Angelina Jolie wore backwards at the SAG Awards. What do you think?

  23. I know@ Kimmy, The dress does seems like it’s on backwards or something, lol. That would explain the excessive amount of fabric behind. It’s a very poorly tailored dress:(

  24. One thing that I noticed about Cannes is that the more daring, out-there, tacky etc. dress you were, the more press you get…

Parvathy is soooo beautiful, and she has such a nice body…the gold dress is a mess, but I still think she looks great and carries her self well!

As for the black and white dress, I like it…sure it’s a little risque, but she looks sexy in it…what’s wrong with showing some skin?

  25. I don’t think that just because she was miss universe or world runner up that she has to be always perfect or impeccably dressed. I mean don’t you guys remember how horrible Aish used to dress?

  26. u know i just remembered – the gold dress looks like something u wud ask your local darzi to make for you.. after getting soem yardds of blingy material and drawing a design for them.. then being hopeful you will get a classic evening gown.. and ending up with a shiny botched debacle!

    speaking from experience :o)

  27. I can’t believe that so many people can spend such a large amount of their time commenting on what a stranger wears. Surely, clothes should be worn because you like them and if she likes them, let her wear them. Have any of you even heard of this women before? (her greatest achievement was Miss India 2008). Aren’t there more important figures in the world for us to judge and more important aspects of their lives (work, intelligence, humanity) on which to judge them?
