Satya Paul: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

There were a few shows we couldn’t wait for them to get over and this was one of them. Nothing new or imaginative on offer, it was ‘same ol’-same ol’ trussed up.

Pastels in georgettes, crepe, satin, chiffon with easy fluid drapes or textured accents with crushed fabric and embellishments were sent down the Satya Paul runway. Abstract prints, florals and heavy embroidery made up the rather extensive range of silhouettes shown on the runway, right from saris to gowns, to cocktail dresses, minis and churidaars. Whew.

And yet, nothing stood out.

Vizyon: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

Drapes, pleats and lots of layering came together to create a 3-D structural effect that dominated Vizyon’s collection. As far as the color palette was considered, it had a more serious cocktail-hour feel to it rather than a Resort one. The materials ranged from softer fabrics like chiffon, satin and eventually moving on to leather. Overall, the collection was way too overwhelming because of the many design aspects and we can’t see any mere mortal being able to pull off any of the dresses without looking clumsy.

FYI: Vizyon is a design house owned by Ayush and Shraddha Murarka that collaborates with international designers and this collection was designed by Ninon Palisse.

Shyamal and Bhumika: LFW Summer/Resort 2010

Shyamal and Bhumika’s collection inspired by Holi had models walking to “Rang Barse”. The beginning set of outfits consisted of dresses with the illusion of color splashed on them and while we thought it was a print, on closer inspection it turned out that the effect was brought out by indeed splashing color on the material which in turn made the outfits feel stiff instead of flowy. A bummer because those were the more fun outfits of the collection.

Next came in cocktail dresses and gowns in a variety of colorful prints and while some were interesting, others just made us feel like were watching a Garden Vareli sari ad updated to include modern silhouettes.

P.S. Pardon the shaky video, we aren’t professionals yet at recording. 😛

In Tarun Tahiliani

One would think that this Tarun Tahiliani anarkali outfit was completely beige but it does have a maroon velvet bodice. Katrina chose to cover the bodice up with the dupatta which was a good move in my opinion. I do wish though she had picked some ruby drop earrings to offset all that beige. She still looks lovely though.

Update: Turns out Asin was spotted in this TT last year. Thanks ‘Anju’ for the tip-off.

In Marc Jacobs

Oh how I envy Ms. Poonawala because her wardrobe is always stacked with dresses that I lust for. Having said that though, this appearance of hers was quite a letdown. Abhorred the rosette sandals and the shiny red Birkin didn’t work with the fun dress.

Catch Kangana in a Marc By Marc Jacobs version of this dress Here.
