Embellished sleeves, collars and shrugs played a prominent role in this collection that included saris, anarkalis, dresses and jumpsuits. While the fabrics were interesting, the silhouettes were expected and the inspiration a tad tired. The bridge between modernity and traditional has been well tread upon, and in this case, it certainly needed more!

While the geometric prints, bright hues and interesting silhouettes were in themselves great, the clever use of fabrics made this an instant favorite. Texturally rich and multi-dimensional, it sure was very appealing.

Somber colors with a dash of red and green made up the color palette. Referencing the planet, the topography prints as well the lava prints made for a change from the more soft, pastel-ey monochrome looks sent down the runway. Appliqué, dyed fabrics, textured shrugs and dramatic sleeves dressed up soft dresses, jumpsuits and flowey tops.

While the collection sure was separates heavy with silhouettes including coat dresses, shift dresses, tops, jackets, trousers etc, evening-wear dominated this collection. Our favorites were the dresses with the voluminous skirts and the more classic below the knee shift dress, both of which thanks to the use of embellishment and texture were given an instant update. Even with the use of embellishments, clever pleating and textural details, none of it felt over the top; it was subdued and sophisticated.

Severely structured. Menswear inspired. And multi-dimensional. This collection from Arjun Saluja cleverly used fabrics and silhouettes to create looks that were both sharp and impeccably tailored. Other than the usual suspects (grey, black, plum and brown), loved the use of the muted/pale green. Almost held a vintage appeal.

At the Femina Miss India bash, both Madhoo and Parvathy went the fitted top/denims and contrasting sandals route. Although, Madhoo’s look was more refined compared to some of her other looks, we didn’t quite dig the zip-front/belted top (anyone else see a Dior influence in the top). Guess, we are giving this one to Parvathy. You?

Akaaro by Gaurav Jai Gupta (not to be confused with the other GG) after having a very successful debut last season went for a more de-structured look for Autumn/Winter. The collection consisted of dresses and separates in fabrics like cottons, wools and silk in earthy tones.

If you are looking for structured fits, classic lines and conventional silhouettes then Kallol isn’t the designer for you. The designer is all about rebelling against all of the things above and so you got to see a lot of unstructured tunics pleated at odd angles to give us relaxed laid-back looks. Our favorites were the clock-print (minus the hair detail, but of course) and the geometric dress.

Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean it has to be devoid of color. Urvashi Kaur and Rehane gave us plenty of it with their collections. Urvashi carried forward color-blocking well into winter by way of tie-dye tunics, wrap jackets, waist coats paired with Moroccan salwars, churidaar pants. Scarves prominently featured throughout the collection.
If Urvashi’s collection was more about loose and relaxed fits, Rehane’s was more about short fitted mini dresses featuring of lloral mesh lace . Accessories comprising of multi-stripe belts and head-peices also played a major part in the presentation.

It was a green embellished Rabani and Rakha gown that Mini wore to the Star Parivaar Awards. While Mini looks slender and statuesque in the gown, we are iffy on the embellishment part itself. That oval drop under the beaded band on the bodice is just so distracting. Little tacky, no?
