At The Awards

More Padma awards were given out today in New Delhi with the receipients being Kajol, Irfan and Shashi Kapoor from the entertainment world.
Kajol picked a royal blue Manish Malhotra sari for the event. I may hate the gold thong platforms but I think she looked good in the royal blue.

In Twos

Being quite used to Ms. Kapoor hitting home runs, neither of these looks brought it home. The blue/grown dress looked lovely waist up but the drape was just so unflattering and unsightly. The sheath dress was fabulous but for the scarf. The scarf along with the do had us thinking stewardess!

Not Quite.

P.S: The clutch is by Anusha Lalwani.

Update: The white dress is French Connection. Thanks “Glitter Girl!”

Seeing Red

At Yashraj’s Y Films For Youth launch, Shraddha stuck to the theme (brand colors) by pairing a cut-out top with a black mini. Would love to give this look a pass except, we just aren’t feeling it. Sure she took a risk but it didn’t exactly pay off… The necklace, the shoes (and socks), the skirt, none of it really worked.

The PR note accompanying the pictures says, “Dressed in brand colors, the young new cast & crew, aptly represented the vibrancy, passion and energy of today’s youth. Movies truly seem ready to get rocked!” Err. Okay. To us, the lovely young ladies looked like clones of each other, ones dressed rather average at that. We missed the part that’s supposed to represent the “vibrancy, passion and energy of today’s youth”.

Finishing Touches

A great color for Sarah and the dress works well on her too. But can you look past the accessories? As great as that blue is with the pink, those specific flats aren’t working at all. Major dislike. Not feeling the bag either. The bag and footwear completely kill this look.

A little bad taste is like a nice dash of paprika.*

I have never been one for make-up. As a woman of certain age and many vices, that perhaps shouldn’t be said so lightly (Hello concealer!), but it’s never been me. A bit of kohl, a dash of gloss and am ready for my big (any) moment really… I’d rather do color with my clothes/shoes/bags, and a mean mango margarita should the occasion present itself. However, lately that’s changed. Of course it did, you know it did, else this post wouldn’t be getting anywhere.

I find myself smitten by a very dramatic lip color, fuchsia. Against my skin tone, it absolutely pops. It’s loud, it’s gaudy and with all things slightly ugly, it’s arresting. I call it hooker-chic and damnit, am owning it!

And like me, Payal’s found her color du jour which happens to be orange. She’d write a (love) sonnet if she could. Oh the joys of color. Anyway, we are giddy like the girl who got to Barneys Warehouse Sale first. And before you go all jaded on us with a refrain of it’s sad really that a lipstick has you writing this… May I remind you, it’s so bloody fun!

Next, stop-in-your-tracks red for me, and a purple/black hell-yeah-this-will-make-you-stop-in-your tracks lippie for Payal. Gots to live a little, no?

* Dorothy Parker is it. Go google her if you don’t believe me.
