LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Pallavi Jaikishan

Pistachio greens, blush pinks, dusty corals. Ms. Jaikishan has a color palette that she favors, of that we are certain. Cue in some exquisite karigari with floral patterns, and there’s her signature design. A sure favorite with brides!

We however have bit of a problem with the fact that we haven’t seen this aesthetic evolve. Exhibit A. Signature doesn’t have to mean stagnation, right?

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Jatin Varma

Going with the winter theme, Jatin Varma presented a couture collection themed “Dark Angels” that consisted of dresses and gowns interlined with fringe, studs and felt appliques in graphical patterns. One did feel that there were one too many elements used making the designs feel tad busy in addition to all the patterns.

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Pia Pauro

With beaded separates, print-on-print, easy silhouettes and lots of fringe, Pia Pauro gave us a collection laden with her Resort aesthetic. There wasn’t much to dislike about this off-the-runway ready presentation.

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Payal Singhal

Taking a break from her heavily embellished designs and the emphasis on jeweled necklines, Payal Singhal presented a collection that was somewhat of a departure from her usual. Somewhat. The embellishment was still there but seemed relatively more restrained than in the past. Besides her favored colors that we’ve come to expect in her collections, the saturated indigo was a welcome addition to the color palette.

While we appreciate the subtle shift in direction, here’s hoping with the next presentation, the designer gives us something entirely different. This one after all even if pared down, is something we’ve seen before from the designer.

LFW Winter/Festive 2012: Nandita Thirani

That time of the year is upon us! *rubs hands in glee*

Day one of LFW saw Nandita Thirani present a collection that we just couldn’t get ourselves to warm up to. Besides being very, very disconnected, none of the designs really stood out. When they did, not for the right reasons.

Feel free to disagree with us in the comment section!
