NYFW Spring 2011: Bibhu Mohapatra
More power to the Indian designers; may their tribe grow! 🙂
Bibhu’s recently shown collection was beautiful, feminine and essentially for that girly-girl.
After working with Halston and J.Mendel, Bibhu Mohapatra started working on his own label creating custom couture evening gowns and cocktail dresses for select clientele. The F.I.T graduate has since established his own label and this was his second showing.
Evening-wear and cocktail dresses dominated the collection and my absolute favorite was the blue-and-black tulle gown (first row, extreme right). Can’t wait to spot it on a red carpet!

i love love love last row extreme left.
That dress on third row, extreme left (chiffon printed) looks exactly like one i saw on BCBG website. The print is almost exact. Copy cat??
Actually they are very different…BCBG is a floral jacuard and this seems like a print of a smoke.
I was waiting for this post. Great to see Indian designers in the NY Fashion Week! Very wearable collection, and I am sure the blue gown will be on the red carpet soon. I like the white-blue gown for nice summer party!
Thats my favourite too along with the cream gown, last row-extreme right. I do love his stuff-its very wearable
HAha if all the dresses were in gold, queenie would’ve died to get in to them as all of them have a waist belt
I like it overall, very wearable
One would be amazed to know there are so many brilliant indian (or indian connection :)) guys behind big names and labels in NYC fashion circuit. So glad they finally launch their own label. More power to the likes of Bibhu and Prabal and many more to come…
Not to forget the people who work on these clothes (often Indian, often in some dingy, small space) and do the heavy embroidery, beading, stitching and the like and remain uncredited because they are not “designers”.
prabal is not indian ,he is a nepali guy…..
i know hence the bracketed ‘indian connection’ as he studied at NIFT delhi :). and worked with Manish Malhotra for a long time.
His fall leather gloves are way cool!
beautiful.my faves are blue gown(first row,extreme right)and the white gown(third row,extreme right)just love them…. 🙂
i luv the green and blue print dresses
sigh!!!
Thanks so much for sharing this Priyanka! I love this collection. I’d buy ever single piece! Not a single one that i don’t like! That blue tulle gown is gorgeous!
Hi guys,
This is a beautiful collection from Bibhu.
I think it is actually his fourth collection under his name.
If you check his blog here looks like 4 collections
all smashing..
I love the first row extreme right and the last row extreme left. and maybe the second row extreme left too. Ha! These clothes are very much wearable, love.

i’ve never fallen in love so quickly- this was such a refreshing line!
Beautiful collection…
These dresses are so Blair Waldorf!!
They are definitely girly-girl, but this is such a wearable collection!
Perhaps thats why i feel like I have seen it all before. Nothing designer-ish about it.
Finally. Prep from an Indian designer. Heaven.
Absolutely stunning.<3
