I honestly don’t see an issue either way. Lots of people wear distressed denims out and about, even in India, no? My home base is a smallish city, and even there, many young people wear distressed denims.
I was thinking of getting a moderately distressed pair for myself too.

WHY would anyone wear torn jeans in the streets of Mumbai? I know in BW its called “personal choice” “fashion” etc.
