Nimrit At Cannes 2013: The Lunchbox Screening

In an Abu Sandeep sari, Nimrit attended a screening in Cannes. A sparkly gold clutch, messy updo and pink lips completed her look. It’s a look we find ourselves unable to get on board with; not a fan of the sari.

You may recall seeing a similar mirror-work like embellished blouse on Tabu not too long ago.

  1. Why is it that when some women wear these statement blouses, they feel the urge to do a boob show. (It is not vulgar here, but often tends to be).
I find the whole look a tad bit messy – the saree, the drape, the hair. All gorgeous on their own but not when put together.

    • The thing is , the one boob show automatically does not disqualify the outfit as bad.. the reason it works here is because of the long sleeves on the blouse, some balance is achieved in the overall look by showing some skin… this sense is innate and cannot be studied , sadly which both Vidya and Ash lack !

  2. I actually quite like the ensemble, including the messy updo. She manages to pull it off and looks like someone of royal lineage. The only minor gripe I have is the hot pink inner border of the saree. Indian women dress like this,as opposed to Vidya Balan’s ridiculous curtain like outfits, which make her look 10 years older! I think Nimrit looks good…

  3. I saw a pic of this on my FB feed (long story), it looked a lot better there, in fact was wondering if you would post on this.

I don’t mind it, she’s been a pleasant surprise package of Cannes-managing to make Saby and AS kind of OK! One boob show – well it was all the rage in the 20s, in the 50s….its not going to go away, the whole drape/dupatta thing is intended to let a woman conceal or reveal as much as she likes:)

Lunchbox has got good reviews, its nice to see Indian indies being appreciated.

  4. It’s the blouse… The bling bling takes away the richness of the Saree, her messy but cute updo and destroys the whole effect..

  5. The right personality can transcend a messy look (Nirmeet) or elavate a basic look (Nandita). Nirmeet and Nandita are the breakout stars of 2013 Cannes, in my opinion. Each with a completely different look from the other too. The sari and the updo are both lovely, its the clunky blouse that is not complementary, though with a different sari, it could also look great.

  6. Blouse and saree are quite nice, just not together. Yes the ‘messy’ look doesn’t help either! Not a fan of boob shows either but somehow this isn’t bad as some others you’ve posted in the past.

  7. I quite like this…may be a lot of things going on here but I think she makes it work…people who smile like they mean it can do that…

    • Pray tell us what is it then?
Have a nagging feeling that u r either a client or an employee of abu jani..which one are u??

      • It’s an organza gota polka dot blouse, hence the mirror-work like effects. FYI I’m neither a client nor the employee. Just a fashion lover, hope that clears the air 🙂

        • wiki definition below : mirror work is a fair description, but I guess you are a purist, which is good.
Gota is crafted using appliqué technique with a strip of gold or silver or various other coloured ribbons of different widths woven in a satin or twill weave. It involves placing woven gold cloth onto fabrics such as georgette or bandhini to create different surface textures.[2]

Originally real gold and silver metals were used to embroider but were eventually replaced by copper coated with silver as the genuine way of making it was very expensive. Nowadays there are even more inexpensive options available. The copper has been replaced by polyester film which is further metalized and coated to suit requirements. This is known as Plastic Gota and is highly durable as it has a good resistance to moisture and does not tarnish as opposed to metal based Gota

  8. i think the same blouse but with a deep burgundy/wine, rich navy or deep black saree would have looked a lot better and *popped* more. in this look, the individual elements just seem lost and she looks kinda meh.

  9. May be in the minority here, but love the whole look. While the boob show is a bit much with the “bikini” blouses and a transparent saree. She IS covered from head to toe. Nothing wrong with exposing a covered boob.

  10. Yes, it’s a little too much bling for a sunny day, but she looks very graceful despite the bling.
More importantly, congratd to the whole Lunchbox team for winning the critics award at Cannes!

  11. Oh I don’t know. There’s something so refreshing about her (seemingly) effortless charm as compared to the all over made up, overhyped , outdated Indian superstars in Cannes.
