In Sabyasachi

Ai yai yai was my first reaction seeing Mrs. Poonawalla at the NMACC event. Yet again, she had on a great gown, a Sabyasachi by the way, but then went overkill in trying to make it different by adding that fur coat and that sparkly Dolce & Gabbana bag. Both of these additions just made the outfit feel disconnected.

Skip that Evil-Witch feather-ey coat, keep the necklace, swap the bag for a matching Sabya beaded one and this look would’ve been a winner.

As is, it gets a thumbs down from me. What about from you?

  1. I am fine with it. What would have made it integrated is if the fur coat was black. Or the gown mostly plain with a fur coat wth silver feathers. And that bag has to go.

  2. Ohh my! She did not have to go and ruin a perfec Sabya dress like this.

Take off the fur coat and the ridiculous bag and she would have had a winner at hand.

    This is bad!

  3. It’s either the gorgeous cape or the gorgeous gown. The two of them together are a whole lot of no. The necklace is all wrong. I do like her bag though.

  4. I think because some of her earlier fusion outings were praised (think back to her Alta Moda D and G appearances where she combined their corsets with sarees), it’s goaded her on to match anything and everything. I appreciate her desire to experiment but this was just not it. Not a fan of the feather cape and it just detracted from the beauty of the gorgeous Sabya outfit and necklace. Combining elements should be done in a way that enhances the beauty of each one, not detracts from it like in this case.

Surprised it didn’t strike her that there was something off when she looked in the mirror before leaving the house…

  5. “Skip that Evil-Witch fur coat, keep the necklace, swap the bag for a matching Sabya beaded one ” then this becomes exactly like just another sabyasachi outfit. Who can blame her for trying to do a twist on it? I think she treats fashion as an art and I would take that any day over being a sabya clone

  6. I would never think this is Sabya but the tiger belt confirms it . Not impressed by it , I feel his saree creations are better and represents his aesthetics. .

  7. Eh… it’s just the bag that I feel doesn’t go with the outfit at all. I quite find it interesting to pair the cream feather cape with an embroidered gown. It’s kinda like what I imagine insanely wealthy people to wear to a night at the opera. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I like how comically cinematic this looks. However, should’ve carried a simpler clutch instead, and could’ve chosen a less opulent neckpiece that doesn’t fight for attention with the gown/cape. Without the cape, she’s just another socialite in a pretty dress. The ridiculousness of it is honestly what I expect from her, for sheer fashion amusement.

  8. might be in a minority here but i actually like it, except for that sling bag! Natty Poo is all about maximalism and I can see why she’d add that feather coat (just hope the auditorium was really cold). love the use of the polki necklace as a collar.
    exquisite workmanship on that gown.

  9. I think the memo was that there should be some “regal outer covering” – hence this feathered monstrosity, Vidya’s poncho, Sonam’s cape, and Priyanka’s whatever-that-horror-was

  10. I just noticed her nails and it’s giving me proper Cruella vibes! Attire is still interesting but those nails, now i can’t unsee it

  11. It’s the bag and the necklace that bothers me. I feel just the gown and cape would have been striking. The bag feels out of place – work crossbody like that and the baubles are too big.
Yes, Nat P, we know you could buy a small island with that necklace alone, but maybe you should have skipped it for this look!
