In Arpita Mehta

Natasha attended the King’s Trust gala on Wednesday evening wearing a kantha embroidered lehenga set from Arpita Mehta. (Not sure why Rhea who styled the look called it a sari).

With Natasha, there are no half-measures, and as usual she went maximalist with large earrings also featuring the kantha embroidery and finished out with kundan baju-bandhs.

No denying this was a striking look and I liked. Having said that though, am I the only one seeing some African influences in this outfit? The hairdo and just the way the outfit is styled.

  1. Normally, I love her statement looks. This one is in-cohesive. It feels like it’s an imitation from a past ( throw a bunch of similar looking things together with something that stands out to turn heads ) to create a wow factor but the soul and vision are lacking so it doesn’t have the same effect.

  2. This is maximalist yes but it’s Nat P we’re talking about. This look is so her and she does pull it off like nobody else. Also props for keeping the makeup barely there when the look is already so OTT.
I think she looks smashing and love how she’s worked in a traditional textile in a Western context.

  3. The kantha is beyond stunning. Great to see the embroidery find new purpose and meaning and have a moment. That said, I think the earrings were overkill. Also, I think the length she’s carrying on her arms is a saree.

  4. She is my ultimate style icon-but those earrings have to go or may be the neckpiece. They are nice and so catchy and on any other outfit they would look solid, but here its one too many elements. Alas!! an example of when one doesn’t know where to stop- Directed to the stylist because to NP’s credit she still pulls it off. And how beautiful is the embroidery 🙂

  5. Agree. Points for trying to do something different but this is very very African and not sure where the look is trying to go
