Screening Style

Nargis’ look at the Badlapur screening really made our eyes hurt. We get that it was a casual screening but her look felt very bipolar.

The top half felt like it belonged at a club and the bottom half, at a yoga class. Add to that the bag (a Louis Vuitton Montaine) that was just eye-searing. If she’d even skipped on the jacket (a Dolce & Gabbana), the bag wouldn’t have felt such an eye-sore. As is though, the look as a whole really felt so.

    • Totally agree! Not asking everyone to be new age Socrates but please indulge in some intelligent thought before posting on a public platform. Bipolar is a lot more serious than putting on clothes that, in your opinion, are mismatched.

    • I was really disappointed to read the ‘bipolar’ comment as well. Mental health issues are already stigmatized in South Asian communities and by using them in such a derogatory way, it is pushed further underground.

      • I 100% agree with you all regarding the stigmatisation of mental illnesses, but in a technical sense ‘bipolar’ merely means opposing extremities, it’s ‘bipolar illness’, or ‘bipolar disorder’ that actually refers to the medical condition. Personally I’d have steered clear of the term purely because of the connotations, but just pointing out that given the context of the phrase “her look felt very bipolar”, P & P (to my understanding) are suggesting the look is disjointed and opposing, not referencing the mental illness.

    • P&P talked about a “bipolar look” as did I. Not the illness and not aimed at the person.
Bipolar: having or relating to two poles or extremities, i.e.; one end clubby and the other yoga-class.

  1. Bipolar is a horrible disease that people suffer from. Drawing fashion analogies and using the term loosely is so distasteful. Its like calling somebody’s outfit ‘retarded’. Just not cool.

  2. People need to chill a bit. P&P mentioned bipolar clearly in the context of opposites. Just because it’s commonly used for a mental health issue doesn’t mean they are trivialising it. And the look is a bit disconnected. And I am not a fan of this hairstyle she seems to favour nowadays.

  3. Reading some of the comments here on “bipolar”, it concerns me that the world is increasingly getting ultra-sensitive when ideally we should be moving towards more tolerance and openness. I would urge everyone to read words in the context of what they were written about, and take a few minutes to maybe reflect more, check a dictionary, or talk to someone, before reacting.
