Nandita At Cannes 2013: ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’ Premiere
While we hunt for a full-length, here is your first look at Nandita also wearing a sari on the red carpet. At first glace, I found the necklace competing with the earrings, but the more I look, I don’t mind it.
She looked great.
P.S. That’s Nimrit Kaur (in Sabyasachi) behind her.

That’s Nimrit Kaur, and she’s in Lunchbox, which is screening at Cannes.
Thank you!
I love Nandita. She always manages to look charming in simple, earthy outfits and has the vibe of a kindly next door neighbor. She could pass for a woman in her mid-20s. And that smile is always so warm and loving.
I know you meant well, but she is too elegant with a great sense of graphic style to be considered “neighborly”. Agree about the warmth though.
Nimrat Kaur. She’s appeared in numerous ads and plays. She is in Cannes to promote her movie The Lunchbox.
Nandita is so pretty, much prettier than Vidya ever will be. THe only thing is that I wish she had some more makeup on, her face always looks the same. Some variety would be nice for a change, but she’s lovely!
Nandita is beautiful beyond words, but is that Vidya comment really necessary? It’s fine if that’s your preference, but there’s no need to pit people against each other. To each his own, my dear.
Do you have something against Vidya?! Just because two women happen to wear sarees and not bandage dresses, it doesn’t mean you have to constantly pit them against each other and pull one down!
What a catty comment! Isn’t it possible to compliment someone without pulling someone else down?!
I think its worth saying – because Vidya has sort of taken on the traditional sari mantle and while I say kudos for bringing trad back, its Nandita who really sets the standard for how gorgeous a girl can look in a traditional sari. Vidya kind of looks matronly , when the traditional sari really is super graceful and sexy.
In every projection of her being..from her austere cinematic sensibilities and aesthetics to her sartorial indulgences and lifestyle choices…everything is so unabashedly and immutably Odia…
That saree is an Odia Kotpad I’m guessing…I may be biased, but somehow such self-assured people with an unrelenting grasp of their cultural identity never go wrong with anything..
Second that! Love love her look!
+1 love what you said
Eh? Oriyas have the copyright on aesthetics, or what? Punjabis or Himachalis or Keralites or Mork the Martian can also have good taste and impeccable cultural sensibility. What is *definitely* tasteless is bringing regional politics into this decidedly apolitical debate.
In which part of my statement did I mention “Odias” having the copyright on aesthetics? and where did your unusually sensitive mind sense the politics?…every race, every community has a particular manner of manifesting their aesthetic, unique only to them and often recognizable, one which most of us no longer stay true to it in the name of globalisation and avoiding standing out in an environment and work culture that celebrates collectivism and uniformity,I know Nandita personally and she is nothing if not fiercely Odia. I would appreciate anyone equally who flaunts their cultural identity notwithstanding where they come from…show me a “Punjabi or Himachali or Keralite or Mork the Martian” in these pages who is this irreverent and non-confirming and I will write the same for them…and don’t you suffocate in your insufferable effete political correctness? you have to pounce this viciously on someone for what? calling someone from Odisha an Odia?!! and I am bringing in “regional politics” to this discussion?! My observation was devoid of any communal connotations. You Sir/Madam are just subliminally voicing your own communal sentiments, and insecurity at someone ascribing a root to a successful person..esp a root that is different from yours’..you very conveniently chose to ignore the conclusion I tried to convey at the end about people with a keen understanding of their cultural roots never going wrong with anything…classic Freudian Slip?
Her mother is Gujarati. Her look is a pan Indian aesthetic. And that doesn’t look like a Kotpad.
Hence the use of “I am guessing”…my mother has a Kotpad silk that looks almost exactly like this with the “Kumbhas” slighly more prominent..
Love it! How elegant!
+100!
This is the best look of the day!! I jumped up when I saw this, and I have been waiting for her picture. Perfection!
So glad she didn’t go the designer way.

she really looks simple and gorgeous. Its so simple that it stands out among the crowd of designer wear. Love this look ! Cant get enough of her.

I love this look! so lusting after the sari
I loved Nandita’s look but also from how much I see I also love the Sabyasachi Nimrit Kaur’s wearing, would love to see more pictures of her saree.
Nandita looks lovely. Oh and I have the same earrings Nimrit is wearing. They are from Amrapali.
We have seen a lot of this over the top projected ” Indianness” lately it’s refreshing to see Nandita keep it simple beautiful confident but not weird. More power to her!!
You nailed it! Agree to the core.
agree 100% with Su.
this is the best look at Cannes for me so far. gorgeous, natural and effortless.
I agree completely. Her charm works, she showcases Indian women in true sense. Loved her saree and jewellery
Completely agree. She wears the saree as a saree, and not as a c.o.s.t.u.m.e.
Very well put and agree 100% with Eclat and others. She is so pretty, and carries herself with so much elegance and class. Nothing costumey about this woman. Have met her in real life too and she is just as warm and gracious as she looks (at least judging by a short meeting). I do wish she had worn some lipstick/gloss for an added dash of color.
I don’t need a full pic as I’m already loving what I’m seeing 😉 ..that necklace is gorgeous.
You nailed it!
Simple but outstanding.
oh how she glows!!!
Agree 100% with Su
She looks fabulous and doesn’t need designer clothes and accessories to do so! true to her roots with nothing overdone. Love those earrings and necklace.
We just don’t see too much of her, that’s why we feel she looks refreshing and elegant. If she made as many appearances as does Vidya, we would start calling her repetitive too…Wouldn’t we? That thought aside, of course she looks wonderful – she is Nandita Das, the one who can do no wrong.
Whoa. She looks so graceful. Also, she looks way more amazing in her non-designer silk saree than most others in their designer wear. It’s all about how one carries it, after all.
it’s great to see her at cannes. she looks gorgeous and effortlessly elegant.
She beats all the Sabya appearances hollow!! So refreshingly simple yet appropriate !
nandita is looking so fresh and fabulous!
I love how she wears her bindi just right and not smack in the middle of her brows like everyone else in Bollywood these days.
WOW WOW WOW!! She looks simply elegant and classy! Traditional looms rock any day…this is one chica who knows what looks good on her and knows even better how to carry it off. This saree appeals to her aesthetic and lends to her earthy and grounded persona! Love it! well done!
Love this look! This woman oozes charm and warmth and she really doesn’t need expensive, blingy clothes to bring out her classy self.
This one lady is not about fashion… she has a innate style sensibility which brings forth her personality in the most classic way……….
It is nice to see a REAL Indian outfit on a gorgeous Indian Lady. All the blingy stuff Sonam/Aish wore has been burning a hole in my eyes.
agree. this is like a balm after the awful vidya-sonam-aishwariya “great indian circus of over dressing”.
Nandita is one of the most beautiful women around. I would love to see her do a glam shoot once. Why deprive the world of your stunning looks 🙂
Effortlessly gorgeous! One doesn’t have be gimmicky to look beautiful…
how i was yearning to see something that was rooted and earthy, she made it possible. thank u Nandita.
+1 !
i am charmed…
such an elegant lady!
lovely smile and i love her saree!
Now that’s one lady who doesn’t care about what the world thinks and is just being herself even at Cannes which is so unlike other’s
Great to see how much everyone loved her look, because I adore her aesthetic. Gorgeous and so Indian.
